I just felt like sharing a couple of songs with you guys today. 
The first one is by a South African band called Freshly Ground.  This song makes me want to invite every one I know over to our place for a braai (bbq) and if you listen to the lyrics it speaks of happiness, hope and new beginnings!  Nice.

 
This one was my wedding song.  Every time I hear it, it takes me back to that wonderful day when we got married.  Africa, friends and family, my new wife and a Rhino in the background... 
I think this is the best version of this song.  Joe Cocker - Have a Little Faith in Me.

It's Wednesday.  It's raining. 

I am doing some research for our Wedding on Friday!  It's gonna be an awesome experience with amazing people.  Be sure to check the blog next week to see what we were able to capture. 
On Saturday morning we are heading out to photograph Erika and Lincoln's wedding.  They have a special "see for the first time" super romantic meeting early morning.  I can't wait to pick up my camera!
I am going to try and make it a regular part of blogging for me - to showcase South African music.  Today I would like to show you a music videos by a relatively new band out of South Africa, called PRIME CIRCLE.
 

 
One of the things you might want to know about me -  is that I am a massive Bjork fan!  She is just brilliant.  I am inspired by her voice, the lyrics, the arrangements of her songs.

It's been a bit hectic since my return from South Africa.  Catching up on meetings, planning for next year, scheduling eShoots - it all got me thinking again...
It's been a little over a YEAR since Leah and I made Winnipeg our home and the response to our service - overwhelming!  I am so lucky to be doing what I am passionate about.  I wanted to do a double post this morning. 
Firstly thank you to all our couples for investing in us and we can't wait to see where the future will take us.  It's only because of you that blfStudios is such a success story.
I opened up my e-mail yesterday and had an e-mail from Lindsey.  Lindsey and her husband John got married in Mexico earlier this year and she sent me the most amazing testimonial.  I wanted to share it with you guys and say thank you to two beautiful people for taking the time to write something about us!

My husband & I decided to have a destination wedding in Mexico! We stressed about a lot of things, including a photographer. Originally, we were just going to have our friends snap pictures of us for the wedding. WOW did we not think this one through... Two close friends of ours, who are having Bond & Leah shoot their wedding this July, had been talking about them one night and were telling us how cool Bond & Leah were when they met them. They instantly knew they were going to have them shoot their wedding before the meeting was over! Somehow through their discussion, we came up! As soon as my friend came home, she told me about blf Studios and that we should really consider them for our photographers. I was a little hesitant because I didn’t

This is not my discovery, but I justhad to share it with those of you who have not yet seen it.  This kid is just too funny!  I remember feeling like that after an operation way back when I was still a young boy.
Thanks to Jasmine Star Photography.  It was on her blog that I watched this for the first time.  Feel free to share.  It certainly will put a smile on any one's face - no matter what kind of day you might be having!! I have no idea who this is.  I just want to say thank you little buddy - good times! LOL!

Hey guys,
So it's earth day today...  It's also election day in South Africa! 
I hope everyone went out to cast their vote in S.A.  I can only wait and see if things will get better in S.A - the new leaders do not seem very promising.  AFRICA!!  It's a crazy place.
What did you do for our beautiful planet today?  I took a shorter shower, went for a walk with my dogs and will try to use a lot less energy in the house tonight.  Not much I know, but it's the global effort that will help in the long run.  I hope to see more of these "events" in the future.  I can not wait for the day when we can afford Hybrid cars and green technology in our houses.
I have always loved this song and video my Michael Jackson.  Yes, I am a Micky J fan!  LOL!  Check it out though - it's good.  The lyrics are haunting and the images in the video dead on.

As the days tick away I am getting through more and more photos from our trip down South.  I have included a couple of photos from Chichin Itza and one of me shooting at the beach wedding.  Leah took it and I think it is my all time favourite of me in action.  Thanks babes!
I am also excited to say that my brother in law (Sean Philips) is getting his videography studio going and will be in full time action very soon.  Leah and I tried to capture some video footage in Mexico during the wedding to have him edit it.  We did not give him the best of quality footage to work with... We just had little crappy SD cam - but it goes to show that it is more important to capture the emotions and story of the day than have over the top technically sound photos / video...  Thanks for your awesome edit Sean!

Sean will also be filming our e-Shoot on the weekend.  Check out my blog some time next week to see the video of us in action!

Hey guys, I just wanted to do this quick post.  I hope you had a great weekend.  A bit cold again today and it made me feel a bit home sick for South Africa!
We will be in Mexico next week this time so I guess I shouldn't be too blue!  We wont be at the Wonderful Wedding Show  this weekend, but wish all of you vendors and visiting couples all the best.  I know I said that Leah and I would come and visit some of you guys, but we have to get stuff ready for next week.  Hope you have a fun time. So here we are in the week of Christmas... 
Where did this year go?  A blink of the eye. Gone!  Leah and I hope it was a great one for you.  It certainly was for us and especially for blfStudios.  Just over a year ago we made Winnipeg our home.  A South African boy and a Canadian girl.   Dreaming of a new life filled with adventure and all that is new and exciting.
Winnipeg, you have welcomed us and we thank you for that.  We look forward to 2009 and the amazing people we will be sharing it with.

2009
Well, here we are in 2009.  It's going to be a great year - I know it!  I hate that time goes by so quick, but love the new beginning the turning of a year brings.  Leah and I were talking about our first year back in Winnipeg.  It had it's tough times, but man did it ever exeed our expectations!
Our 2008 couples were great and we made some beautiful photos, captured emotional memories and all in all had loads of fun!  I can't wait to get going for 2009.  Our first wedding is in February.  A real winter wedding!  It will be cold, but I can't wait to take some great photos of our couple.

I wanted to wish all the 2009 couples good luck with the last minute planning.  Getting the invites out, choosing music and a menu, booking Plan B locations in case it rains, etc. etc. 
Enjoy it!  Your wedding day will be over in the blink of an eye.  Breathe and take it all in. 
If you are new to the blog you will see that I like to do posts on things that inspire me as a person and an artist.  I wanted to start of 2009 with one of these.
The first is of a song by an African artist - Youssou N'Dour featuring Neneh Cherry.  A song called 7 Seconds.  I love the melody, the lyrics and the music video fits right in with my style of photography and videography.

Had a great meeting last night.  I have said this before, but it's worth mentioning again.  Leah and I are so lucky to be booking super fantastic couples.  I have heard some nasty and funny stories from friends and other photographers. 

I found some funny wedding moments to share with you. 
I always make sure to tell our couples to enjoy the day from the get go.  Take it all in.  The day is over in a second...
Relax and make sure you don't do this...

Now, I know they might have hurt themselves, but man that is funny!
I have often asked myself if I should continue shooting or run out if this ever happens to me.  What do you think? Continue documenting or run and hide?

Now, if you are thinking about your first dance.  Here are some ideas.  I hope to see some of this at at least one of our wonderful weddings next year...

It's almost the end of 2008 and most couples should have everything under control as far as the to do list goes for their wedding next year.  You might have this planned and bought already, but if you are still looking for something to give as a wedding favor, have a look at the list below.
Simply use the amount you would have spent on favors and donate that to one of these charities.  Give your guests a copy of your receipt or a creative reminder of why they didn't get a favor and what that money was used for.  Trust me -  they will love it!  Leah and I did it when we got married and one of our guests actually gave us a wedding gift in the form of a donation towards school supplies for a child in Africa. It was the best gift we received and it cost the least.
 We have so much.  Do we really need another bottle opener dressed as a wedding couple or candy in a box?  Think about it.

Now, there is no need to feel depressed about all this.  It's a great way to help save someone's life and make your guests feel all warm and happy inside.  You don't have to use one of the four I mentioned.  A simple Google search will give you information on organizations a little closer to home.

It's that time of the month again where I would like to share with you some of the things that inspire me on a professional as well as personal level.
As you might know I was born in South Africa and lived there up until 6 years ago.  As it is with most things in life, it is only when you are removed from it and able to do some refelction, that you fully appreciate what you had, experienced or enjoyed.
I thought I would share with you a song by a South African artist called Johnny Clegg.  We call him the white Zulu. Ask any South African outside of South Africa if he / she knows Johnny Clegg and how it makes them feel to listen to one of his songs...
I hope you enjoy this song and the visuals that go with it.  Maybe one day we can visit South Africa together on one of our African Photo Safaris.
