Fear of Rejection – You, Me, Everyone, Get Over It.
Tonight readers I’m coming off a great cup of coffee with some very brilliant minds. I enjoyed dinner at Middleton’s “Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse”  and it was delicious but it paled in comparison to the conversation. John Alexandrov, Michael Friedman, Darren Kittleson, Jessica Fox and myself shared some thoughts after John & Michael’s training today on call reluctance. The day was filled with excitement, highlighted by a perfectly timed fire drill evacuating City Center West right at the peak of John’s personal story of the challenges he faced and overcame in his life. After the smoke cleared the story was finished and the message delivered without skipping a beat. I applaud John’s professionalism in that situation and trust that won’t ever happen again in his speaking career. So tonight reader I wanted to share with you my personal story of call reluctance and how I came to where I am today….still call reluctant, but not paralyzed by any one cause.
You heard me talk about “The Midnight Magic Plastic” before, you know those infomercials. What many of you don’t know is that the first business I ever started was created by one of those opportunities. Have you seen the infomercial for SMC? Yep I bought into it, and let me tell you if you can figure out a niche’ to profit selling gift items, it is a valid opportunity. So besides time, what was my biggest challenge? Fear of rejection!  So picture this….2003 I’m sitting in my home office about ready to launch my company “Gifts for Good”. My goal was to wholesale some of my products to local retail shops. I put together my prospect list, collected their numbers, ensured they weren’t on the do not call list, created some scripts on wordpad and opened 6 windows on my computer each titles with a different perceived objection. My palms were sweating, my heart racing, I looked at the phone and it looked back at me showing it’s rabid teeth. All I could think of was how much of a fool I w

Wow, it was great to see some of my friends and make some new ones at this year’s Blitz! Despite the negativity in the media and challenges on the frontlines the group seemed to be very positive and upbeat. Who was at Gee Dunsten’s final session in the day? Did you get his message? I think he made some key points, one that really stuck with me is getting your clients, prospects, friends and families engaged in your business as well as your success. I honestly believe that if they help create it, they own it and are a partner in your business. Think about how easy and powerful it would be to invite 5 people from your database to your office and get their opinion on your website, marketing materials etc. Take some advice from them, after all they are the consumers you are hoping to be in business with. If you make a couple of changes that they suggested imagine how honored AND enrolled in your success they will be. If you really want to come out on top in this market, you must create RAVING FANS, create a lot of them and create them quickly. If you can think of another way, let me know and I will publish it next week of course citing you as the contributor.
 
Another powerful point was treating your business like a business….focusing on PROFIT! This is one that you hear me talking about quite often as it is one of the most important business principles you can adopt. Shifting from measuring success by how busy we are to how profitable we are is a huge shift in personal accountability. So where does the profit we seek come from? Good day readers and thanks for your continued loyalty. You may have read a scribbling of mine in the past with a similar title, I assure you this is not the same story. Recently I was slapped in the face by none other than Gary Keller, not literally of course, yet equally painful. It is one of those slaps that are so powerful, they change your life. Why was I slapped? Because I am a spoiled brat and I won’t call you one, but I do intend to help you self discover that may be the case.
 
Here we are bathing in some of the WORST economic times since the great depression. How are these times affecting you? Personally I write this from my heated bedroom with flannel sheets overlooking my beach house and the Madison skyline after just moments ago walking out of my steam shower… and yes I am writing this on my laptop. My beautiful and very pregnant girlfriend just brought me gourmet pizza for lunch and our baby is almost text book perfect already equipped with every material item she will need for the next 2 years. When I was 25 I was named CEO of a multi-million dollar company with little more than a years worth of experience and no management background whatsoever. My career today is as secure as my commitment to results and my ability to adapt to changing market conditions. I control my destiny. Those that know me know that I wouldn’t share this unless I needed to make a point. What is my point today… this is the era of entitlement. I still felt at times the world owed me more and today that sickens me.

“My listing presentation needs some work!” “I was planning on tweaking different area’s on my website today!” “There is this cool paperless office solution I have to look into!” “I have to master Neuro-Linguistic-Programming before I talk to anyone!” Does that sound like your days in real estate? Always preparing to make it BIG? Think of those press conferences after your favorite sports teams lose regardless of what they play…. What does the coach say? If the coach is a great coach, it is a simple statement, “We have some work to do and plan on going back to the basics!” Words of wisdom and overused only because human nature pulls us into creativity constantly re-inventing the wheel. So what are the basics in real estate?
 
Just like any other industry the strength of our business is directly proportionate to the people that choose the use our product/service. This comes down to your database and how often and effectively you communicate with those in it. In this real estate war, if we want to win we need to meet people, LOTS of people. How? I don’t care!! Do you understand that.. really let that sink in… it doesn’t matter how you meet people, the proven models of the Millionaire Real Estate Agent says you just need to meet 1920 of them, database them and communicate with them often and effectively. What does 1920 “met” people in your database mean to you when communicated with properly? What if I told you it meant $190,000…. $380,000….$720,000….. it honestly comes out to be $1,000,000. Is that enough to bring you back to the basics?
 
What would that do for you? Your family? Does it seem overwhelming…meeting 1920 people? That is 8 people every day you work…. If you worked 48 weeks per year and added 8 new people to your database and into the proper touch plan STARTING today you would have the Millionaires Database. T

I have reviewed this video and not only is it timely, it makes sense for us locally here in Madison, WI and it’s suburbs. Our local housing market in Greater Madison is affected by, short sales, foreclosures and bank owned property.
This video briefly mentions the “move up” buyer and how NOW IS THE TIME to do so if you are considering it. This is where it is so important to understand that the answer to the question of, “Is it a good time to sell?” is always “It depends!” There is so much opportunity in the Dane County area and you could see a significant net gain if you choose to make the move.
Currently Sun Prairie, WI has some of the most affordable housing in the Greater Madison area and will continue to in the future. When you look at the real estate market as an ULTRA local market, you can obtain MUCH more house for the $$ just moving across town.
