Uncrating Masterpieces from Museo de Arte de Ponce!



The extensive unloading and installation process continues at the Brooks for our upcoming exhibition. With less than three weeks to go, the Exhibition staff continues to work hard getting these enormous paintings in place. We hope you enjoy the 2nd part of our behind-the-scenes look at Masterpieces from Museo de Arte de Ponce.

In just three short weeks, the Brooks will unveil the largest exhibition in our 94-year history! Masterpieces from Museo de Arte de Ponce will feature 60 works from 6 European countries, spanning over 6 centuries. Many of the paintings included in the exhibition have never since been exhibited outside of Puerto Rico! The show will be on view from October 3, 2009, through January 10, 2010.

Since we’re all art nerds, we thought it was really cool to see the delivery truck pull up and unload these huge wooden crates holding magnificent artworks. Our Chief Operating Officer Rick Bartemus said they were the largest he’s ever seen come through our doors. (You can tell from some of the pictures that he’s not kidding — it was quite a Herculean task getting them through doorways and into the galleries.)

A spotlight tour of The Prints of Jacob Lawrence at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. The Museum's Chief Curator Marina Pacini walks through the exhibition and points out some of her favorite prints while sharing facts about Jacob Lawrence and his work.

A one of a kind event that was a hit with the kids! kids strolled in they took a walk down the red carpet as the paparazzi snapped pictures. Once inside kids headed to the theater for a program of kids films made by kids.
