Tackle It Tuesday – Week 46 (partially tackled)
If you’re wondering what happened to weeks 1-45, they don’t exist. But I ran across this the other day (and almost forgot about it) and thought it would be fun. I have all these little projects I think about doing while I’m at work, that never, ever, ever seem to get done once I get [...]

Not MY daughters, Reebok! « Golden Acorn Homeschool
I am so disgusted, I can barely string a coherent sentence together. Why (someone PLEASE tell me why), a commercial for athletic shoes needs to be sexualized like that?

Why is it OK for Reebok to tell my daughters that the “real” reason for exercising is so a man can appreciate their assets?

Why is it OK for my son to absorb the message that he should ogle women and only value them for physical appearance?
Creepy encounters at Doomtown
So after locking my keys in my car in a store parking lot on our way out on All Hallow’s Eve, we made a late appearance at Doomtown… just me and the curlykidz. This is the first time in years we didn’t go in a big group… but now that most of the group is [...]
Welcome!
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh
I am Queenie Mama, grand kisser of boo-boos and healer of hurt feelings, of three multiracial children, one of whom is both gifted and ADHD. [...]

Beware Young Girl.
This broke my heart…  how many Sara’s will we lose to the sexualization and objectification of women?
In response to the constant objectification of women, the recent gang rape of a 15 year old girl in Richmond, CA, the unjust incarceration of Sara Kruzan and even the highly publicized violence faced by Rihanna, conscientious rapper and [...]
Disney Racefail
When I was in high school, I did a report on Race and Gender in Disney for History Day. The report itself was weak (I was 14 years old), and I still have a soft spot for Disney, since I was raised with it and their movies are visually masterful, but this post reaffirms what I was trying to get across to the judges: that Disney does promote messages that are actively harmful, and whether or not that’s deliberate, they have a responsibility as providers of entertainment for children to be responsible in the messages being sent.
Drumline (Theatrical Trailer)
all inner city kids need is a nice white lady
I know I said I wasn’t going to post anymore stand alone videos as a blog entry, but I just had to throw this one up last night when previews of The Blind Side were getting on my nerves. The Nice White Lady Movies are getting a little old for me. I knew better than [...]

Unitarian Universalist code word for racist: "Racially Challenged"
I know I am supposed to be blogging about my personal stuff that I've been avoiding. But last night I read Vessel: The Gordon Sisters did not have 'a complicated past'. They were racist. I just can't let it go. I think I could fill a Bingo Card from this article.

"I won't say, 'They were racists!' " said the Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger, waving her arms in mock alarm.

I'm pretty sure that waving your arms in mock alarm qualifies as using air quotes, which is generally offensive in any discussion about race.

Racism 101: The "I'm (or in this case, they're) not racist... BUT" disclaimer is just code for "I'm about to say something racist."
