Myra Mathis
This week Generation News travels the world with Myra Mathis a recent University of Rochester Graduate! We caught up with Myra and talked with her about her 10 week missions/humanitarian trip to Pemba, Mozambique; which is on the eastern coast of Africa. While in Africa she worked with the Harvest School of Ministry in their orphanage and elementary school. When we interviewed her she spoke about how she always wanted to go to Africa for an extended period of time. Along with working on the campus with the children Myra paid close attention to the medical staff being that she plans on attending Med school in the fall of 2010.

Andres Stewart
This week Generation News talks to a young man who at 20 years old has faced more than his share of adversity. Andres Stewart was your typical 19 year old college student with great ambition until his mother was tragically murdered in their home on the city’s east side. This terrible loss left Andres, an only child, to fend for himself and abruptly pushed him into adulthood. However, Andres did not let this immeasurable loss stop him. Nine months later Andres is living life to the fullest. At 19 years old he purchased his first home, got engaged, and started a band with a group of friends from church. He said that forgiveness was a key factor in his healing process. He also added that family and friends have played a vital role in his progress. So sit back and enjoy this encouraging story of perseverance and we are sure it will touch your heart!

Successful PathWays to ReEntry Program
This week Generation News takes you to the Successful Pathways to Reentry Program to meet Shateisha Carter. We talked to her about the efforts she is pursuing to live a successful life after being incarcerated. One of those efforts is her participation in the Successful Pathways to Reentry Program. Through this program she is receiving job training, career exploration resources, as well as a weekly stipend for her participation. She has even taken this opportunity to sign up to get her G.E.D. We want to emphasize the message that a single bad decision does not have to negate your chance at achieving success in life. So we give much love to Shateisha and wish her all the best as she continues her journey to success.

This week Generation News features Sarah DeLaus. She is the School Board Student Representative for her second consecutive year. This Wilson Commencement High School senior loves serving her peers as their voice to a distinguished school board cast. We had the opportunity to see her in action as she met with the District's Director of Safety and Security James Sheppard to discuss issues of school safety. Sarah is also a news anchor herself at StudentFirst which is produced by students of RCSD. After high school Sarah hopes to pursue a degree in medicine.

Generation News was in the studio rockin' to the beats of Basement Productions. This company was started two 19 year old young men Chris Lofton and J.D. Peace. Working in their homemade studio in Lofton's basement these young entrepreneur's already have a reputation for providing high quality music to Rochester's up and coming music talent. Both Peace and Lofton were introduced to music at a young age and have cultivated that passion into a budding new business. Trinity Training
This week Generation News is going to "The Octagon" with Cody Goodfriend and Trinity Training! Daniel Snead caught up with Cody and talked with him about his MMA training and the school that he runs at Victory Baptist Church. Cody has been training in MMA since the age of 14 and is now 21. He talked with us the about the history of the sport as well as insight into what it takes to compete. Not only is he a coach, but he is a businessman as well making sure the finances of the school stay in order. Well, enough talk let's check this fighter out!

Geneseo Soccer
Generation News took a trip down to Geneseo High School to talk to two of their soccer stars. Their names are Elvin Johnson and Mel Rogers. These young men have an extremely unique story. Both Mel and Elvin are from Sierra Leone (West Africa). They immigrated to the United States to escape the civil war that was and has been ravaging their homeland for years. One thing that they were always able to enjoy through the hard times in their homeland was a good game of soccer! Both Elvin and Mel truly are talented athletes and are currently starters for Geneseo’s Boys Varsity soccer team. Last year they helped lead there team to the championship game but suffered a disappointing defeat. But this year they have set a team goal to make it past sectionals and win the state championship. So sit back and enjoy the show as we kick it with these young soccer stars!

Danny Doran
Danny Doran has been a Team Riot Kayaks professional athlete for the past 3 years. Even though he is young he has more experience than most paddlers twice his age. Danny has paddled all over South America and the United States with his traveling kayaking high school World Class Kayak Academy. Dannys dedication and strong work ethic has allowed him to reach many goals, both on the water and academically. He is currently the youngest ACA certified instructor and has defeated some of the biggest names in junior competition in the fields of freestyle and down river Rochester's Very Own Mr. Kayak. Generation News is proud to introduce to Rochester Mr. Danny Doran! Danny is a 16 six-teen year old soon to be junior at Pittsford Mendon High School. At only 16 Danny one of the top kayakers in junior competition and has traveled the world to navigate some of the toughest rivers. At the tender age of nine years old Danny had his first encounter with white water rafting at Rochester's very own Lock #32. It was there where Danny developed his skills and was motivated to pursue a higher level of difficulty in his sport. During the past two years Danny has spent 2 semesters in Missoula, Montana at the World Class Kayak Academy. World Class Kayak is a prep school specifically for students to excel in the sport. While attending this school Danny traveled to California, China, even down to South America to Chile' contend with raging rapids. Even at a young age Danny is already a highly decorated athlete in his sport. He proved this by taking third place in the best in the west competition and had won the freestyle event 4 years straight at Rochester's very own Lockapalooza White Water Competition. When Danny is not fighting the rapids or taking a plunge down a 40 ft water fall he can be found at Lock #32 teaching white water to his younger peers. Generation News took a trip to the theatre! We visited Greece Olympia high school for their production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Before the show we were able to interview the cast and crew learning about what it takes to produce a show of that size and caliber. It was a general consensus that student enjoyed participating in the play because it provide the opportunity to build new relationship and actively participate in the art of theater.

Summer Youth Employment Program
RIT Summer Youth Employment Program: This summer a handful a youths are taking part in the RIT Summer Youth Employment Program. (SYEP) This program hires kids to come out to the RIT campus and learn how to build computers. But, they are not just building these computers for themselves however they are building them to give away to local organizations that serve the community. We were able to talk to this lively group of young adults and get their take on the project, and what life skills they will walk away with.

Generation News: Willie Monroe
Check out Justin Ortiz as he throws punches with Rochester's very own, Willie Monroe Jr. who has has jabbed, ducked, and punched his way into professional boxing. Training since the age of six (6), Willie attributes his success in the ring to his work ethic and tenacity and says that the key to his success is the countless hours that he puts in at the gym. He currently holds a record of five wins and zero losses, and looks to continue the winning trend
