Teaching a puppy “up” and “off” is a very useful behavior. It can help you to get a puppy to jump into your car, direct them onto a chair and also put the “off” behavior under cue control too. If this is trained correctly you can direct your puppy to “up and off” objects without having to touch them or physically manipulate them. The first step is to encourage them “up” and reinforce the “up” behavior, then teach then to “sit “when they are up and reinforce that and then teach them the “off” behavior.
