This video shows Biscuit learning that down means down even when there are distractions. He only gets up when released using the "ok" cue. Biscuit has been in the DogSmith Board & Train program. Dogs stay in the home of a DogSmith certified dog trainer and work through a 14 day program. Teaching A Dog To Down/Maintain With Distractions
Sookie is very ball driven. We are introducing some distractions into her ‘down-stay’ behavior. First the ball is placed on the ground and then Bethany throws the ball. Sookie is learning that if she relinquishes the ball and shows control by ‘staying’ she will get the ball when released. The DogSmith Dog Trainers teach skills in small criteria. We do not progress onto more difficult behaviors until the previous behavior is solid. That way the behaviors are reliable and robust.
