Danfung Dennis- Freelance Photojournalist
About a fortnight ago, I posted this to my Facebook page:

"The bravery of the modern photojournalist - Danfung Dennis shoots in the thick of Afghanistan battle on his 5D MkII"

There was a link to a 24-minute rough cut of Dennis's photographic and videographic account of life with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th US Marine Company, with whom he was embedded as it was dropped 18km behind enemy lines in Afghanistan to seize a key bridge. Within a few hours of landing, fierce fighting erupted and continued fo
Broken Hill Dust Storm Australia
I just thought I'd add to yesterday's post about the Sydney dust storm by posting this extraordinary video of the storm as it was seen further out from the city.

It's kind of terrifying.
Why presentation is so important
Thanks to my RSS, I stumbled across a terrific post in the Reuters Photography blog by staff news photographer Jason Reed today.

Jason reveals in the post he'd been on a basic video editing course, and came away from it with a goal, which, in his words, was "to capture a sense of everyday life at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave".

I don't know about you, but I think he did exactly that in a excellent and irreverent way.

I'm currently halfway through a photojournalism course, and also trying to hammer home the idea
Los Angeles: in motion
Stumbled across this little gem on Vimeo today. Not only did it remind me of some very dear friends currently residing in the City of Angels, but it also tipped me off to some great new music in the form of Waiting For A Nuclear Free City, yet another great band from Manchester.

Hope you like it.
News Corp. ‘knows nothing about technology’
According to Michael Wolff, MySpace could be the undoing of News Corp whom, he says, has no idea about technology. He also refers to the acquisition as a 'relative calamity' for News Corp.

Harsh words, Wolff knows Rupert Murdoch pretty well. He's his biographer. Perhaps he has inside information on the big man's opinion of arguably his worst business decision to date.
Surfing in super slo-mo
A few days ago, I posted a super slo-mo video which, at the time, I thought was extraordinary. Turns out the BBC has achieved something more so.

They've been shooting a series called South Pacific, and within you'll see this astonishing piece of footage, shot on the same US$100,000 camera, the Typhoon HD4.

Australian cameraman Bali Strickland - not sure if he's related to the legendary runner Shirley - took the footage and is clearly delighted with his efforts when you watch the clip. Understandably so. T
Super slo-mo on steroids
As a sports fan - hey, it's my job OK - I've been so impressed with the use of super slow-motion cameras over the past three or four years.

One of the best early uses of it was during the 2005 Ashes series in England, when host broadcaster Channel 4 would routinely create vignettes to play out their coverage of balls hitting the bat, wood bending, the faces and bodies of bowlers contorting and so forth.

These days, it's still being used for much the same thing in sports broadcasting - colour, really, with
ELBOW - ONE DAY LIKE THIS - LIVE ON ABBEY ROAD
What's fast becoming an anthem for Elbow - One Day Like This - is performed superbly on their Live At Abbey Road appearance. Enjoy.
The 8 Sexiest Commercials
This did make me chuckle. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths the imagination will plumb in order to sell a product.
Camel Safari, India
I'm posting this to test the VodPod capabilities of WordPress. It's been an annoyance for a while that I can't embed videos to my blog, so hopefully it worked.

If it did, you should now be watching a video I shot from atop a camel in Jaisalmer, India. It was quite a ride.
