I'm a German from outside of Hamburg. Since I was a kid I wanted to live in New York City. For the last 11 years I did. I've always felt slightly misplaced everywhere - except for in NYC, where everyone seems to fit. I've been proud to tell everyone I live in Brooklyn. In April I moved to Berlin. I don't know Berlin - I'm not even sure how much I know Germany anymore. These are just my personal random 1-minute impressions of life as a German New Yorker in Berlin - shot with just a little point'n'shoot pocket photo camera.

Cosplay at Sakura Matsuri - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 105)
One of the intriguing features of the Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden are all the people participating in cosplay, which is a combination of wearing a costume and role-playing based on certain characters (from an anime series, for example) or an idea. Even though the cherry trees bloomed very early this year and most of the blooms were already gone, I was still going to show you some of the other beautiful spring blooms, like azaleas, tulips and the Japanese peony.Collected in German New Yorker in Berlin May 4, 2012 -
Sanibel Island (Florida) - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 104)

NYC Easter Bonnet Parade - In A Brooklyn Minute (102)
The 5th Avenue Easter Bonnet Parade in Manhattan is the most fabulous display of fashion anyone has ever thought up for a holiday. Manhattan Rooftop Bar View (5th Avenue) - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 99)
Views of 5th Avenue and surrounding buildings from Salon de Ning, the rooftop bar above the Peninsula Hotel (at 55th Street). Manhattan Bridge View - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 97)
The view from the subway crossing the Manhattan bridge with the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline (formerly with World Trade Center, now with Freedom Tower) is one of my favorite views of the city. From my earliest days of living in Gravesend/Midwood and commuting to my job at the W Hotel in Midtown to a day like today (not my best) this view always reminds me how much I love this city and how there's no place like it.Collected in German New Yorker in Berlin Mar 9, 2012 -

Chiang Mai + Doi Inthanon (Thailand) - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 93)
Chiang Mai is a lovely city in the North of Thailand - full of temples, monks, street food, flowers and all kinds of different motor vehicles. From Chiang Mai I also took a day trip up to the top of Doi Inthanon, the highest peak of Thailand - where I saw waterfalls, a hill tribe village (purchased handmade scarf for the cold winter I'll return to too soon), memorials to an old king and temples for the current king and queen.Collected in German New Yorker in Berlin Feb 18, 2012 -
