Voor Leonhard was #Picnic09 ‘a meeting of the minds. An amazing cocktail of people and topics.’ Belangrijkste mediatrend is volgens Leonhard: open platformen. “The whole valuesystem is shifting.” Een lesje mediatoekomst met Gerd Leonhard: awesome!

"Increasingly I think the digital divide is less about access to technology and more about the difference between those who know how and those who don't know how," says author Howard Rheingold, speaking in front of King's College at Cambridge University. "The ability to know has suddenly become the ability to search and the ability to sift" and discern.

Earlier in the week Howard gave the keynote address at Reboot Britain, and he recounts some of them here. Among the Essential Literacies he cites are:

Strange (talking headish) effects!
The Library as Universe
"Of course it’s the Aarhus Public Libraries in Denmark. Pretty cool stuff. I especially like the line about making the library about what the youth need from libraries, rather than what libraries need from youth."

CityEngine
In the video Rome is re-constructed quickly via a "grammar" that makes Rome-ish buildings. The CityEngine software can also mapped out their placement generatively as well. The artificial city "grows" organically.
World Builder
This lovely short film presents an original scenario for a future interface to virtual world making. Like the famous Apple Navigator film from decades ago, or ATT's You Will series of ads, or the Minority Report's scene of transparent gesture interface, this fictional depiction is convincing and inspiring. I want one now.

Since I wrote a tune and some words for Mr Clean's track various layers of meaning have been added- not the least of which is Marcel's animated video. Having first seen his work at a show by the Royal Art Lodge collective I wondered if there might be something in the water up there in Winnipeg. Here is the voice of God speaking through an old Oak tree- which seems perfectly right...and it complements the song perfectly, as do the ghosty spermy spirits at one point. anyway, I'm flattered and thrilled that th
