The Late Paul Caseaux looks at Projected Transportation Increases
The video is in French so mono-linguists must trust my interpretation. In this video,
the late Paul Caseaux looks at major issues involved with expected increases in Transportation. As usual his high quality mind extracts the essentials in the relative short term (next 20y).
He differentiates Freight from Travel, Local (France no, increase) from International (8% increase). He considers a 2x increase in Freight over the next 20 a good guess. Freight therefore is an international affaire and involves the f
Nature's Raincoats
video winner from the Royal Society 2009 Science expo.
These themes , and soft mater physics and chemistry in general were favourites with the late Prof. Pierre Gilles de Gennes, Nobel Prize winner and Charles Friedel metallurgist and condensed mater physicist.
Bottom line stuff - AdSense and Advertising Strategy
Excellant comments, short and to the point. This will certainly influence my future approaches.
Smart Materials Demo_Car Case Examples
Shape memory materials are one example of smart materials. A simple "Feynman type" demonstration is given and applications in the case of car manufacturing are shown.
Materials Science, Science and Society: Definitions from Penn State Uni.
Materials and phys-chem processes are all around us. Society appreciates their uses. Materials Sci. studies the structure (physics) and chemistry of materials. It is based on the fundamental principle of physics and chemistry. It applies these principle to materials and their uses. I share these views and motivation voiced by Penn State Uni's staff. Indeed it is the reason I became a scientist, a metallurgist a materials and process scientist at a place who's motto is "A Place of Useful Learning".
Mercury (Hg) Liquid Metal
Excellent little video on a room temperature metallic chemical element known to all high school pupils. In my time, it was only manipulated under the fume cupboards which equiped all our science labs in Scotland. Great for illustrating many scientific principles especially surface, interfacial tension etc.
3Tier Power -Renewable Energy Co.
3Tier for the 3 geophysical relms:
Land, Atmosphere and Water. This reminds me of a certain Scots Clan Motto: "By Land and By Sea" Per Mare per Terras!
Today it would probably be by Air by land by seaa and by Space (its all solar inn't it?)

From rags to riches and thoroughly deserving. Best wishes Sue. You havemy vote to sing before Queen Elizabeth II ("New Queen of Scotland?)

Enlightening approach to fully and quickly come to grips with the issues involved in the Energy-Climate Change debate and to participate in the making and taking of what some consider to be the most important decisions facing the world today. A must video and book (free online) for Governments and governed alike.
Al Gore's latest slides on climate change
At TED2009, Al Gore presents updated slides from around the globe to make the case that worrying climate trends are even worse than scientists predicted, and to make clear his stance on "clean coal."
Intuition and logic, as one -- to create bold thinking_ Importance of teaching arts and sciences together
Intuition and logic, as one -- to create bold thinking and bold thinkers. Mae Jemison a US astronaut (1992), a doctor, an art collector, a dancer ... Telling stories from her own education and from her time in space, she calls on educators to teach both the arts and sciences, both intuition and logic, as one -- to create bold thinker

American Coalition for "Clean" Coal Electricity
Part of the problem or part of the solution, "Your Choice Counts" cf. also Jarod Diamond videos on the fall of civilisations.
"This web video is part of a viral marketing PR campaign by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, a front group for the coal industry. The "clean coal" campaign tries to counter coal's association with the problem of global warming.

Greenpeace has written a detailed critique of the myth of clean coal, titled False Hopes: Why Carbon Capture and Storage Won't Save the
Charles Handy on Philanthropy
Did "misled" philanthropy lead to the current "down-turn of down-turns?
I came across the following description - a Maslow Pyramid when I lectured on Cross-Cultural Management and Total Quality Management
The Importance of Values:
1. Values the core of the system.
2. Beliefs the first skin or shell.
3. Appearance.
I think you will agree, Charles, that appearance has taken an overly importance in "developped" society.
