In an effort to preserve artisanal traditions and bolster the local economy in a sustainable way, the Fashion Fusion Project in South Africa pairs regional craftspeople with the country's top fashion designers, who creatively integrate the traditional craft, such as beadwork or embroidery, into their contemporary collections, creating new applications for traditional skills, new income for the nation's craftspeople, and some beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces.

A bio on Hussein Chalayan. Considered one of the most intellectual and experimental designers in fashion, his thought-provoking collections explore ambitious themes of evolution, morphology and time, all while creating some truly spectacular garments.
