Film: Handmade Nation
Have you heard the buzz about Handmade Nation? The film, released in 2009, was created by Faythe Levine, a filmmaker, author, independent curator, and creative director. From the film’s website:
Handmade Nation documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that recognize the marriage between historical techniques, punk and DIY (do it yourself) ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, Handmade Nation explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination and networking.
In 2006 first-time director Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities, interviewing 80 individuals. Levine captured the virtually tight-knit community that exists through websites, blogs and online stores and connects to the greater public through independent boutiques, galleries and craft fairs. Interviews were also conducted in artist studios and homes of the featured makers.

What do you think? Inspiring, no? (Thanks for the tip, Kathryn Virello!)
Creative diversion
Whether or not you’re procrastinating, you’ll LOVE this enchanting music video from singer/songwriter Oren Lavie: “Her Morning Elegance.” A creative winner, hands-down. (Thanks for the link, Rebecca!) You can close out the annoying Google ad if it pops up across the bottom of the video window, BTW.
Relieving yourself of genius
If you loved Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love, then you’re going to love this video of Gilbert discussing her paradigm of creativity, and how it might help you too. Recommended viewing. Do you subscribe to Gilbert’s philosophy? If not, do you want to?

(Thanks to Suzanne Révy and Rebecca Coll for alerting me to the clip.)
A year in the life
If you haven’t yet seen this amazing video yet, enjoy. Eirik Solheim took a series of daily photos every day in a set location outside his home and the results are stunning. Necessary inspiration for winter doldrums, which will hit New England in about three weeks!

Women transcending
I hope everyone had a wonderful, joyous holiday!
I had an unusually chaotic week, as the holiday was bookended with house showings — but the very good news is that we signed an offer on our house over the weekend. Fingers crossed that everything proceeds smoothly. We’ve spent nearly two years in real estate limbo, and I can’t believe that this protracted process might really be coming to and end. Now, to negotiate on the new house, and try not to fall into panic mode.
While trying to take a deep breath, I was reminded of this beautiful video from writer Kelly Corrigan, who articulates so vividly the strength that women draw from the sisterhood we share with other women. (Thanks to Rebecca for the video link.) Without question, this blog is evidence of the sisterhood.
