American Cantos -- RED ONE PRODUCTION REEL on Vimeo
This is a sublime short film by Joe Taylor, with a tip of the blogging hat to Patrick Zimmerman for flagging this up. He shot it with the stunning Red One digital HD camera (if I had a million dollars...). Taylor's filming style reminds me of some of the atmospheric work of http://en.wikipe
Video: Chinese inventor's home-made submarine | World news | guardian.co.uk
My friend and colleague has taken his skills as a photographer and adapted them to creating video, very compelling video. He shoots not only with digital video cameras but also with a new generation of HD video enabled digital stills cameras. Here is a great example of his skill in composition and storytelling with his interview with a Chinese amateur submarine inventor.
Imperial Cafe in Prague
Recently, Suw and I went to Prague. We were staying just outside of the city centre, and after arriving on Saturday evening, we were looking for a place for breakfast on Sunday.

Have you ever been at an event where you're asked to describe your superpowers? I guess I have two super powers. Well, they're not all that super, such as the ability to fly or stop speeding bullets, but they are super in terms of being super useful. Suw says that I have amazing 'restaurant foo'. I can size up a restaurant and det

Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address
Steve Jobs is a great story teller, and he's proven that you can tell stories through computer hardware. This is a little less fluid than his normal delivery, but the story is fascinating.

Love what you do, and a lot of things will follow from there.
Things to do before I'm dead: Learn to fly
OK, that's a bit of a morbid way of putting it. I don't plan on dying anytime soon, but I fear that I've been putting things off for a while. When I moved to London in 2005, I didn't know how long I would be here. When I left the US, I was told that it would be a year long assignment, but when I landed I was told that it might only be six months due to budget cuts. Then, six months grew into a year and a half, and then I changed jobs, and it's almost four years later.

Everything has had a temporary feel a
One year in 40 seconds on Vimeo
I just love this video. It's almost meditative. I remember growing up in rural Illinois how I used to mark time in seasons, planting in the spring, the corn growing in the summer and then harvest in the fall. I miss that languorous sweep. Now, time seems to rush by without any particular rhythm.

Taking a minute to think about it, I guess it's a bit ironic that an entire year compressed into 40 seconds reminds me of that slow seasonal sweep of time. It takes a pause of less than a minute to remind me of th
Economics and Annoying Smart Guys
If you don't understand the economy and why it's gone to hell so suddenly (well it's been coming for a long time), that's OK you're not alone. But at least we can laugh all the way to the poor house.

Seriously though, it's long past time that we have the luxury to be uneducated about economic matters.
UK's Overwhelming CCTV Presence Captures Everything, Including an 8-Foot-Tall Alien
An 8-foot alien is stalking the street of Bournemouth. The police arrived within minutes to arrest the beast because they spotted it on CCTV cameras. If only crime was that obvious.

I'm just a citizen. I come in peace.
