tuesday tunage
suggestions:

grooveshark is rapidly turning into not my favourite playlist maker out there, as they don’t have any of the songs i want.  i apologize, but most of the tracks in the playlist are different than the videos.  basically have double the songs i usually post; consider it a bonus.

tuesday tunage
these tuesdays seem to be coming faster and faster.  but, as promised, here’s a whole bunch of music for you to explore.  i apologize if the grooveshark playlist is different from the videos, but there’s just so much great music you need to experience!
oh, a few notes:

tuesday tunage
so apparently i’ve been in a folksy mood.  this week, i present to you:  folk music.  some of the singers aren’t that great to look at, but they do make some beautiful music.
Blitzen Trapper – Black river Killer

Will Stratton – For Franny Glass

Marla Hansen (with Denison Witmer) – Hollow and Bold

Sufjan Stevens – For the [...]

if you don’t really have time to sit through and watch any of the videos, maybe just skip right to the last one, Emilie Mover – Ordinary Day.  the lyrics are beautiful, the music is perky, and the video is done in stop-motion by someone who just likes to do stop-motion.  also, i didn’t get [...]

i was going to post something about my life before new york, because, well, i’m not going to be in new york that much longer, so i figured i should get this all down before i have to write about another thing, but today has just been too great of a day to write about [...]

it’s officially been decided that tuesdays will be music days (titled tuesday tunage by popular demand) and mondays will be recap days.  because everyone needs to know what i did with my weekend, regardless of the weather.  seeing as my time left in new york is limited, and summer has decided to stay on vacation [...]

sita sings the blues
i have a few things to post today, but i'm a little all over the place as i'm leaving for the airport in 4 hours to fly to wisconsin for the weekend, so i might just queue them for tomorrow or monday.

first off is this fabulous little movie, Sita Sings the Blues, heard of it?  it's a beautiful little film that i can't really describe as i've only seen bits and pieces, BUT i really enjoy the artistry and colours, not to mention the music, so you can bet i'll be putting it on my ipod and watching it fully on the plane.  the nice thing about this movie is that the creator, Nina Paley, has chosen to distribute it for free.  she has it up for download on her website as well as a myriad of others.

and here's the trailer, in case you need some persuasion:

are there any cute movies you've seen recently and would recommend for a quick watch?
music monday
i know, it's not monday, it's tuesday, but i'm going to start posting music on mondays because nobody should have to do more work than they already do AT work, so here's to the start of a new trend...i think.  anyway, i've been listening to my last.fm for the past few days and have been introduced to so many great new songs and artists, i just thought i would share.  today feels like a day where brains should be left on shelves and pretty things should just be enough to enjoy.  so that's what i'm doing.  nothing to read here, just music to listen to, and pictures to watch.  lovely.  okay, not all the pictures are that great to look at, but i promise the music is worth it.  also, i hope the youtube videos work, they weren't loading for me this morning, so i'm hoping it's just my shoddy internet.  have a great beginning of the week!

[EDIT: with further thought while in the shower, where most of my epiphanies occur, i've come to a dilemma.  music mondays or tuesday tunage?  is tunage even a word anymore?  am i just trying to regress to wayne's world?  tuesday tunes?  i should make a poll...]

things
THREE WAYS I AM STILL A KID:
1. i'm always laughing and dislike taking things too seriously
2. i play video games and watch cartoons
3. i like to wrestle with j and am constantly in awe at the world

THREE WAYS I AM ALREADY OLD:
1. i've "learned" to be more realistic
2. money has become an issue
3. i'm more mature than i'd like to (think i am) be

THREE THINGS I WANT TO DO:
1. travel the world, learn as many languages/cultures as i can simply by immersing myself
2. own a vineyard with sheep
3. sleep under the stars again

THREE WAYS THAT I’M A STEREOTYPICAL “BOY”:
1. i strongly dislike the colour pink
2. i love video games (and cars, sometimes. and hockey and baseball)
3. burping is funny, and i have a great technique

THREE WAYS THAT I’M A STEREOTYPICAL “GIRL”:
1. i have boobs and a vagina
2. i refuse to part with my long hair, it must reach at least to my shoulder blades/nipples
3. i hate to admit it, but i squeal on occasion, and sometimes (RARELY) i giggle.

THREE NEW THINGS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS:
1. move out of NYC
2. knock a few cities off of my "places to visit" list
3. learn to love and appreciate myself and my seemingly limited talents

THREE THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF:
1. my imagination/creativity/photography skills (i don't believe in photoshop)
2. my legs
3. i'm a hopeless romantic

THREE THINGS YOU HATE ABOUT YOURSELF:
1. i'd like to say nothing
2. but that's hardly realistic
3. so i'm going to have to go with weight and my ability to fool myself (also, biggish hips and no ass. thanks mom)

THREE PARTS OF YOUR HERITAGE:
1. i'm german and russian. as far as i know.
2. i love dumplings, saurkraut, and gravy. also brats (with saurkraut). but refuse to touch cabbage in any other form.
3. knowing i'll be inheriting my great aunt's cookbooks (she got them from her mother, who came over from germany) is one of the most exciting things for me. she is the best cook i know.
THREE THINGS TH
toilet paper
i had a whole list of things i wanted to write about, but i didn't actually list them, so they're gone for the most part.  i guess i'll just make this random and keep you updated on what's been going on.

so today's wednesday, though it feels like tuesday, and my head is all confused because it should be tuesday, though j and i are leaving for wisconsin tomorrow, which is thursday, but should be wednesday.  it's all very hard for me to comprehend right now, and i'm not sure why, because i usually embrace change and chaos like this.  regardless, tomorrow evening we have a flight out of here around 7pm, which means we won't get into wisconsin (hello, milwaukee!) until about 9:30.  luckily my dad agreed to come pick us up even though it's an hour and a half drive from where they live.  it's weird saying that, should i still call it home?  i'd like to think i have two homes now, the one where my parents live and the one where i live with j, as my heart is in both places, but i don't actually live with my parents.  it's confusing when i say "home" and i have to specify whether it's the one in wisconsin or the one in new york.  hopefully i don't pick another one up somewhere down the line.

in other news, j and i have been doing a colon cleanse.  i've never done one before, but i'm going to say i'm glad i don't poo this much regularly.  i mean, don't get me wrong, it feels amazing to be getting rid of EVERYTHING all at once, rather than stretch it out over a long period of time, and my body definitely feels healthier, but we are running out of toilet paper.  and we don't buy the shitty TP, we make sure to pamper ourselves with quilted, cushiony, soft, thick stuff, like charmin or cottonelle.  that stuff is like wiping with clouds.  both of us refuse to use anything that might chafe, scratch, or smear (such a nasty word) during clean up.  we care about our nether-regions.  my point is that this TP isn't cheap.  j likes this comedian, John Pinette, who does
blog swap
i'm blogging over at blogs by tara, so go to her place to check out my post!_____Hello readers! I’m Tara and I blog over at blogs by tara, where capital letters are optional. Alyssa and I have swapped blogs today for the 20something Bloggers blog swap. I must admit, this post is different for me, because I usually post a few pictures and say a few words. But this post has actual thought and effort, so enjoy it while it lasts!- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Let me say first off that I was deprived as a child. Deprived because I never had a video-game system of any sort. The parents didn’t want me to waste my time. So naturally I would go to my friend’s houses and play instead. I was never a Zelda or Donkey Kong fan, it was straight up Mario & friends for me (although I did dabble with Tony Hawk for a summer). Super Nintendo was my shizz. I think I did a little dance when N64 came out, and probably had a 10-year-old heart attack when N64 was released. The penultimate game for me is and always will be Mario Kart, mainly because it’s the only thing I’m good at, but also because it’s fun. This weekend I was hanging out with some friends and noticed they had a Wii. Being a Nintendo fan, I asked if we could play it. I really wanted to do some bowling or tennis to make up for the fact I hadn’t gone to the gym for 6 months that week, but then one of my friends suggested Mario Kart. Um, hello, yes please! Like I would ever turn down the opportunity to kick trash at Mario Kart, especially against a group of guys.I got to use the Wii Wheel, which was awesome and amazing and all kind of other things. Someone mentioned that the Wheel is for those kids who used to jerk the control around playing Mario Kart unnecessarily because, as we all know, old-school MK had nothing to do with actual movement, just your two little thumbs and sometimes an index finger. You know what? IT’S TRUE. I’ll fully admit to being one of
TMI Thursday : prairie-doggin'
i suppose i could do a TMI thursday now that i have something to share. it's not anywhere near as bad as some of the things i've been reading the past few weeks...seriously, i'm glad i'm not any of you people who participate in this sometimes. sure they make good stories, but some are just disgusting. anyway, i'm gonna make this as short and sweet as possible. i have to go pick my dad and brother up from the airport in about 4 hours, and still have lots of apartment-prepping-for-guests to do. i'm a procrastinator. what, like you aren't?sunday night, the last free evening j and i had before he started his new job, we were trying to hang out as much as possible. we were lovey dovey all day, put together a puzzle, and killed all the bad guys in lego batman as an unstoppable force. invincibility cheat codes are pretty much the best thing ever invented. so when it came time to get ready to go to bed, he wanted to take a shower so he didn't have to get up an extra half an hour early, seeing as he was already going to be getting up at 5:00. "well i'll take one with you! that way i don't have to take a lonely one tomorrow." i was trying to be cute i guess. he went into the bathroom to turn the water on and get the place steamy, then gathered our towels. "wait, before you get in, can i go to the bathroom first?" i asked. of course this wouldn't be a TMI post without poo, just to get you on the right track. so as i'm sitting down to, well, poo, i slide open the shower door to turn the water cooler so we don't run out of hot water in the middle of our joint shower. i close the door, no problems. i'm reaching for the toilet paper in preparation for the finish, when all of a sudden, water starts spraying me in the back from over the shower door. i was so shocked at first that i didn't know how to react and ended up yelling for j, because that's what i do when i'm in a situation like that. just as i jump up to get out of the water, j comes running in half naked

1. flickr2. dark chocolate covered milano cookies3. j making his hair into a hot little mohawk4. 3-egg omelets with virginia ham, turkey bacon, and lots of cheddar cheese5. falling asleep (for a nap) with j to music made by a tibetan monk and a native american shaman playing flutes. really beautiful, really calming sounds. i highly recommend this type of music for meditation, help falling asleep, writing, reading, or just relaxing. obviously i don't expect you to listen to the whole thing, but give it a try at least.
improv everywhere
i am such a girl that for dinner tonight, i'm having beer and pizza. corona extra and a pepperoni digiorno pizza. at least i know how to eat right. salads? pfft, rabbit food. vegetables? i'll leave those to the vegetarians. fruit? puh-lease. i have a lime in my corona, good enough for me.anyway, what i really wanted to show you was a video that i was reminded of thanks to the lovely jamie who blogs at "oh! how lovely!" and runs her very own "oh! how lovely! shops" where she "finds all the cute stuff, so you don't have to." also, giveaways. you heard me. get over there and check her out. she posted a video today of an event at liverpool street station where, all of a sudden, music starts and bunch of seemingly random people begin dancing in sync. right in the middle of the station and all the crowds! way cool, and so exciting. here's the video, and the link to her post so you can thank her.the video i wanted to show you is one that happened in grand central station and was put on by an improv group, "improv everywhere". it's about a year old, but it's so cool. watch it. you'll like it.
