I am the senior U.S. Senator from Louisiana and was elected in 1996. I grew up in New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In 1979, I ran for and won a seat in the Louisiana State House of Representatives, becoming the youngest female ever elected to the State Legislature. I'm married and have two children.
