Legal victory for battered men
A Kanawha County Circuit Court judge says West Virginia's domestic violence programs are discriminatory because they deny abused men access to publicly funded shelters.
Judge James C. Stucky also ruled that the programs deny women abusers access to treatment.
As part of his October 2 ruling, Stucky voided rules set by the Family Protection Services Board, which oversees licensing for domestic violence shelters, advocacy certification and state funding for such programs.
