Social Media = Business
I couldn't agree more with Gary. Social media is not a magic lamp or a mysterious tactic. Its just plain business. Caring about your customers and interacting with them.
Employees & Social Media: A Corporate Dilemma
Social media is no longer an emerging technology, but a technology that is hear to stay. How does your institution handle both internal and external use of social media technologies? Jeremiah Owyang offers some sound advice to start with.
The Beauty of Collaboration
I often show how or why to use social media. Here is a great example of collaboration across distances. It's truly an amazing video to watch.
The Vendor Client Relationship
When you deal with clients, does this parody seem true sometimes? I had to laugh when I saw this movie as I can relate.
Website Sin - Gluttony
Asking for too much information on request forms can be harmful to your overall success in relationship building. Check out this video about Website Gluttony to understand why its better to ask for less.
Keyword Research Basics
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be an overwhelming task, but it doesn't have to be. Once you've identified the strategy for your website (eg. goals, audience, messages, etc.), you can then start by building your keyword list.

We will be going through this exact exercise over the next few months as we work not only to realign our website with the strategic goals of the college, but improve our rankings in search engines.
Introduction to the Semantic Web
If you've been working on the web in the last couple of years, you may have heard the term Semantic Web or Web 3.0. You also may have no idea what this mean or hunch, but not a strong foundation. I have a previous post that talks about the future of the web that might help.
Did You Know 4.0
I’ve showcased similar videos in the past, but this was is updated and current with trends figures. The other thing I like about this video, at the end it provides sources to validate the claims in the video. Besides the poor looping backtrack, I think this video is great. It’s these kind of videos that senior executives and others who may not understand the impact of social media and the changes that are on the horizon need to see.
Google Website Optimizer Tutorial
I've been interested in conversions and landing pages for some time. As the college where I works gets ready to launch a new marketing campaign, I'm planning on using Google Website Optimizer. My goals are simple: 1) determine which landing page is best and 2) get a better understanding of Website Optimizer. Check out the video which is a good introductory video to get started.
What Do Students Think of Your Commercials?
I came across this video which is a parody of traditional higher education recruitment/promotional videos. It made me laugh, I wonder what your prospective students think when they watch recruitment videos from your institution? I don’t agree with the statement, ’if we were a good university, we wouldn’t have a commercial’, but its definitely something to think about.
Social Media Revolution
This video there are some very interesting statistics about social media usage and predictions for the future.
Baby Got Leads by Hubspot
Another music video parody from Hubspot. This one again about inbound marketing. I think these message can never been seen and shared too much to marketing professionals to drive the point home the importance of inbound marketing.
Social media is the new punk rock
I came across this video on YouTube and thought it was a good analogy. Although I’ve never considered myself a punk rocker, I do consider myself a blogger and social media participator.
Inbound Marketing by Hubspot
This is a funny music video parody about inbound marketing. Anyone in marketing should really watch this video to understand (at a basic level) the importance of SEO, landing pages, RSS, etc. in marketing efforts. Other intrusive marketing means, while they do have they place, are not as effective as inbound marketing efforts.
The Year The Media Died
I came across this video which is absolutely great and, even though humorous, depicts the change traditional media is facing at the hands of the web and user-generated content. Its 9 minutes long, but worth every second.

GLUE – The Start of Social Colonization
I saw this video posted on Jeremiah Owyang’s blog and thought it was worth sharing. GLUE allows you to share in your web browsing experience with your friends. Jeremiah has talked about different eras of the social web and the Era of Social Colonization starts this year and GLUE helps facilitate this. As a recap, Jeremiah shares that Social Colonization will allow every experience online can now be social.
