Friday Music Video: I'm Amazed edition
My Morning Jacket
Friday Music Video: Sky Blue Sky edition
Let's allow Jeff Tweedy and the gang at Wilco take us into the weekend. Happy Friday, everyone!
Friday Music Video: Hold On, Hold On
Unnamed Partner and I are enjoying a lovely break with good friends, at an unnamed location. Yes, you are all here with us, readers, but please don't take it personally if I don't give you much attention while we're here. There are birds to be watched, kayaks to be paddled, jigsaw puzzles to be reassembled. And all that food and drink is not going to be consumed on its own, you know.

Here's to the start of a lovely weekend!
Rapture!
Here I was going about my business today, you know: being kind to my fellow man and to all sentient beings; helping those who are in need, giving to charities and giving of my time -- that sort of thing. And come to find out, unless I quick go over to this guy's site and say a magic prayer, any minute I will be sitting at my laptop while all the rest of you are called up to heaven by babe jeebus.

Oh well. I thought when they talked about "Rapture" they meant this classic by Anita Baker. Guess I'll just wat
Friday Music Video: I am Overcome
I've decided not to write a post about 9/11 again, but you can read the one I wrote last year: I will pray for peace today, again.

This song by the band Live has become sort a memorial anthem to that day, and I like this video because it is of them performing it. There are tons of videos out there that use this soundtrack against graphic images of that day's events 8 years ago. But anyone who lived through that day has their own library of images that will never be erased, and I find it much more powerful
Friday Music Video: Special Birthday String of Pearls" edition
Hey JelloHeads -- yesterday was Mother Jello's birthday, and the birthday girl turned a mere 88! She has always been a big fan of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and specifically like this song, "String of Pearls."

We're all getting together this weekend to raise a toast and honor the matriarch of the Jello Family. I hope you all have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
Why We Need Government-Run Universal Socialized Health Insurance
A cartoon explanation of why we need a public health insurance option.

If you agree that a public option should be part of the health care reform bill, make sure you let your representatives know!...
Friday Video: Feel Good edition
Many thanks to FranIAm for posting a video elsewhere by this amazing group: PS22. Yes, "PS" as in "Public School 22." Fran posted their incredible version of Coldplay's "La Vida Loca", but I also came across this version of Lady Gaga's "Just Dance." Enjoy, and HAPPY FRIDAY!
Kudos to Barney Frank
Oh, the man surely does aggravate me sometimes, but the way he responded to this wingnut at a Town Hall Meeting is exactly the way all the politicians at these things should be doing it. Watch:
Friday Music Video: Les Paul & Mary Ford
SO many choices for a music video today, it's hard to pick just one. I mean, there are dozens I could post just from Woodstock! But I do want to honor the man who changed popular music forever with his crazy little invention called "the electric guitar." After all, without Les Paul, would there even have been a Woodstock?

Rachel Maddow: "Tea-bagging queen" ?
By now I'm sure you have heard enough about the "Birther" movement of right-wing nutjobs who have nothing else to occupy their time than to repeatedly claim that Barack Obama is not an American citizen because he won't produce a birth certificate. (He has. Repeatedly.)

So, a new leader of the pack 'o loonies is Lou Dobbs -- who by the way once had a decent financial show on PBS, but who suddenly went off the deep end and is a now raging lunatic. This same Lou Dobbs recently attacked other commentators in
Friday Music Video: Dog Edition
I promise I'll give up the canine theme after this. But I just couldn't resist a little Three Dog Night. Happy Friday, everyone!
Friday Music Video: Rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes edition
So, I am off this weekend to celebrate the 50th birthday of my dear friend, who comments here as jband81. I really cannot believe that "J" is turning 50 tomorrow, because in my mind it will always be 1977 (when this video was filmed) and "J" will always be 18 and I will always be 16, we are listening to the Dead in her parents' /my parents' house along with assorted selections of our brothers, something being passed around to enhance the enjoyment of the moment. No cares, no worries.

Happy Birthday, my fr
In Case You Missed it: Yesterday in 100 Seconds
TPM has a great feature where they compress the day's events into a 100 second video. In case you missed the shenanigans of the of those wacky men on the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday -- here they are in all their glory!
