This snippet gets a little deeper into the value of understading why and in what way a Yoga of Sound can benefit us.

This stream of sacred sound derives from the Bhakti tradition in which sound is used as an expression of love, service and devotion. Bhava is the state of mind that predisposes the practitioner (or devotee) to mystical states and changes in consciousness. Here, these states are produced by sounds (and music).

Shabda means "word" and this usage of sound for yogic pursuit draws from the Vedic tradition, that specializes on specific and particular ways in which sound can be sculpted (like yoga practice) to produce changes in consciousness, awaken states of enlightenment as well as for general health and well being.

Indian spirituality, especially during the Vedic period (1500 - 500 BC) used sound as central component for all of its spiritualities, cosmologies, rituals, philosopies and yogic disciplines.

Yoga and Music are gaining incresing credibility in the medical field today. There is, interestingly, a Yoga of Sound, an ancient tradition that used sound as a central component of yoga practice adn that parallels the development of hatha yoga, the popular yoga of postures and stretches.
