Sinhalese mob attacks Tamil demonstrators in Melbourne
On 4 April 2009, a group of 50 Sinhala expatriates attacked a car-rally organised by Australian Tamils in Melbourne. The car rally was to protest the genocide of Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka and demand immediate end to the war waged by the Sri Lankan government. A few Tamil Australians were injured and their cars were damaged in the attack. One of the attackers also reportedly got injured in the melee. A massive 125,000 Tamils in the UK and friends came together to march in London on 31 January 2009 to highlight the plight of an estimated 350,000 Tamil civilians caught up in the unrelenting onslaught by the Sri Lankan armed forces.
