The Stony Brook College Democrats counted down the seconds to history on election night, as the networks called the presidential race for Barack Obama!

Making the night even sweeter, Brian Foley won his race in a landslide, tipping the state senate back to the Democrats for the first time in nearly half a century. AND Tim Bishop once again trounced his opponent to win reelection to Congress!

All in all, a good night to be a College Democrat

The Stony Brook College Democrats joined Alpha Phi Alpha to march for change on election day!

Members of the Stony Brook College Democrats spoke with J-School reporters on election day.

Several students lined the academic mall for hours, encouraging students to vote for Obama and the rest of the Democratic ticket! And it worked; we had over 90% turnout on campus!

The School of Journalism reported from Tabler Quad, where the Stony Brook College Democrats spent election night following the results.

The Stony Brook College Democrats registered more voters on campus than any other university in the state!

And we took our expertise out of state as well, on trips to Philadelphia and Bloomsburg.

Way back in August, we hit Union Square in New York City to register voters.

Politics has become an act in precision. With news organizations and citizen reporters watching (and recording) every public appearance, all it takes is a wrong word—macaca, say—to sink a campaign. 
And yet the McCain campaign has seemed to drop all notions of caution in the last few days following the announcement of Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate. Obama is hitting the GOP nominees hard on what can only be described as lies from the mouths of McCain, Palin, and their surrogates.

To combat the nonstop coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, John McCain has announced (in an event ignored by every network except Fox News) he had received the endorsement of a prominent entertainer who shares many of the same ideals as McCain. I speak of course about reggaeton star Daddy Yankee.

The McCain campaign wasted no time launching an attack ad on Barack Obama and Joe Biden following Obama’s announcement of his running mate, using Biden’s own criticism of Obama from a primary debate from half a year ago against their campaign. 
It really wasn’t a surprise. If Obama had chosen any of the former presidential candidates, McCain could have easily found snippets of criticism directed towards Obama. 
Luckily for us, we can do the same for McCain.
