lights on is an audio visual performance created for the Ars Electronica museum in Linz, Austria, which has a facade that contains 1085 LED controllable windows. The windows' colors are changed in realtime with music that's broadcasted on speakers surrounding the building.

visuals coded in openframeworks by zachary lieberman, joel gethin lewis and damian stewart (yesyesno). music by daito manabe, with support from Taeji Sawai and Kyoko Koyama. we made this in three days :)

the performance is approximately 10 minutes long. this is an edit. also, we've recorded the output from the software (audio / OSC) and this performance can be replayed in the future for events, etc.

This animation was made by Nervo's creative direction in the year 2000. By utilizing Flash he animated each individual layer in synch with the music track for a competition organized by Warp Records.

A working model of an ancient computer was recently recreated in London.

This video highlights the work of The Flaming Lotus Girls, who do some pretty cool things with fire. It makes me think this one idea I have for a sculpture is actually feasible... if I could find someone like these women to help me build it without blowing myself up!

Reuben Margolin explains his kinetic work, and the process behind it.

His stuff is incredible, and I love the role nature plays as an inspiration for the pieces. This is definitely worth watching if you're into kinetic sculpture.

In part two of this interview, Chomsky discusses relationships between the economy and democracy.

He talks about unions as a vehicle for achieving change, and makes some good points. I find it interesting that we in the U.S. have largely turned our backs on them -- given the undemocratic nature of the work world, how else are we to have some sort of say in things so important to our everyday existence?
