I'm in a movie
My good friend (an former roommate) Ronnie Gunter has directed and filmed a movie called Solid Country Gold that won the Big Grit Award this past weekend at the Indie Grits Film Festival. Almost all the "actors" are my good friends from growing up in Blue Ridge, SC. The movie is a fake documentary (think Spinal Tap). We affectionately call it a "Mockumentary with a Mustache." It chronicles the story of a country band from Blue Ridge. Most everybody in the movie plays an exaggerated version of themselves. Since I'm the more reserved of my friends, I play the guy who hardly talks, but when he does it's just mumbling. Hagan on the other hand is, well, more Haganesque. If you want to see where I come from, this movie is (kind of) it. The trailer is below. The official site is here. If you live in the upstate of SC, there will be a screening at the Greer Opry House on May 15. Enjoy this little slice of redneck heaven.
A vision for a Great Commission Resurgence
My president, Dr. Danny Aiken, shared a message this morning in chapel entitled "Axioms of a Great Commission Resurgence." It is a message that has been burning in his heart for some time. It is a movement he, and other great men of God, are (and will be) leading. Dr. Akin's vision for the SBC is Gospel-centered and all about Jesus. If it is the vision and direction of the Southern Baptist Convention, I'm all in.

Here are a few of my favorite lines and the video:

* "A Great Commission Resurgence is not the same as a Moral Reformation or political activism."
* "Our hope is not in Capitol Hill, but Calvary's hill."
* "No Gospel equals no Great Commission Resurgence."
* "Jesus must be a passion and a priority."
* "...good sex inside of marriage..."
* To preachers: "Brothers, we are not journey guides, self-help gurus, positive thinkers, entertainers, comedians, or liberal or conservative commentators, parroting the wisdom of the world. We are Gospel preachers, Jesus-intoxicated heralds."
* "Too much of the SBC is aiming at a culture that went out of existence years ago."
* "Every church a church-planting church, every believer a missionary."
* "The Cross will be our offense to un-believers. Not our styles, not our traditions, not our legalisms, not our moralisms, and not our sourpuss attitudes."
What's the difference between and an agnostic and an atheist?
This is from a few years ago, but my theology professor mentioned it the other day. And when a seminary prof referenced the Colbert Report, I figured it would be good. So here is UNC professor Dr. Bart Ehrman and Steven Colbert's self-proclaimed irrefutable logic.

My favorite line: "So you're agnostic? Isn't that just an atheist without balls?" Even more reason to be a Duke fan.
