Early Elton John/Bernie Taupin : Love Song
This is their first album - full of Taupin's love of America, but without any of Elton's subsequent glam, or rock.
The playing is clean and acoustic - the songs spare and evocative, the harmonies affecting and unforced.
You're left wondering - why throw all this away?
Miles Davis - Ascenseur a l'Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold)
Miles Davis recorded this live in an improvised studio, in '58, as the film was being made. Jeanne Moreau set up a bar and after each day's shoot, sat in on the session and served the band drinks. It was Louis Malle's first film.
