Dan, as usual, doesn't pull any punches about Obama's lack of movement on DADT, DOMA and the like, and how he continually passes the buck to Congress. Dan does find a small silver lining to be hopeful about from Monday's event at The White House.

Alison Stewart was substituting for Rachel Maddow on Monday where she discussed the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising as well as interviewing Lt. Colonel Fehrenbach who was in attendance at the White House LGBT Event earlier that day. While he sounded confident that Obama is indeed committed to ending DADT, his interview seemed tinged with sadness at the expectation that the administration's actions will not come quickly enough for him to be spared being discharged from the military. It's estimated that his case will take another 5 months to conclude and his discharge to go through.
Earlier today, Lt. Dan Choi, lost his battle when a military administrative board recommended he be discharged. He has vowed to appeal.

Last weekend, like the previous 5 father's day weekend before, I found myself gluing Swarovski crystal rhinestones onto bras, g-strings, thongs, and other strippable unmentionables in preparation for Broadway Bares. My other half has been involved with designing costumes for the show for the past few years including the ad campaign for the last 2 years. The show is always a blast and a TON of money is raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year they raised over $800,000 which was quite a feat considering the recession we currently find ourselves in. We currently have two wars in the middle east and a severe troop shortage - so much so that we’re now accepting convicts into the military and giving them loaded guns, but repealing DADT has to be pushed down the road because there is too much on President Obama and the Defense Secretary’s plates at the moment. I call bullshit! As much as it pains me to say as I’ve been an Obama supporter since the beginning of his campaign, it sounds like someone has fallen in love with his high approval rating and no longer wants to rock the boat. I’m seriously disappointed.

I haven't seen the actual movie, but I did find this amusing.

This is a hilarious spoof of Anne Coulter by new cast member Michaela Watkins on Weekend Update. They cut it from the broadcast and released it on the interwebs as an exclusive. NBC is a bunch of pussy’s for not airing this last night.

While on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this week, E! asked her what she expected of Obama this year.
Anne responded with, “I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren. I don’t get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can’t. So I’d love that.”

Now, I gave up on The Real World many years ago. They strayed so far from their original goal of bringing people from differents worlds together in one house and observing how they interact. The last 10 years have been about getting 7 hot people in a house with as much alcohol as possible and lets see how slutty/drunk/arrested can we get them. The last season that I can remember watching and enjoying was season 4 in London. Everyone had their own lives and goals (doctoral candidates, singers, playwrights, DJs, etc.) and they had intelligent conversations. Despite giving up on the franchise so long ago, I always watched the first episode of each new season in the hopes that they’d return to their roots and rediscover what made the show so interesting in the first 4-5 seasons. It appears that this year is the year they finally got it. It’s an incredibly diverse crowd who seem to be relatively intelligent.
Some of the cast include:
Sarah who’s studying to be an art therapist who wants to specialize in vicitms of sexual abuse. She is dating a guy for the first time having dated girls exclusively before.
J.D. a gay dolphin trainer who ran away from home at 13 and was raised in the foster care system.
and finally, The Real World’s first trans person, Katelynn. I actually recognized Katelynn from an interesting documentary I saw at The Tribeca Film Festival called Red Without Blue. The film is about a pair of twin brothers who come out as gay and then one eventually comes to the conclusion that he is transgendered. The trans brother befriends Katelynn and they become a support system for each other.
All in all, it looks like it’s going to be an interesting season. Below is the first episode for anyone that missed it.

Real World: Brooklyn - MTV Shows

I couldn’t let the day end without posting NBC’s interview with Anne Coulter after canceling her yesterday and then rescheduling her for today. I find it hilarious how she mentions several times throughout the interview that she’s determined to get half a sentence out and that she won’t be talked over and yet if you go back and watch Harry Smith’s CBS interview with her yesterday, that’s all she did was talk over Harry and not let him get half a sentence out. HYPOCRITE!

Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher – who earned 15 minutes of fame by challenging Barack Obama’s tax plan during last year’s presidential campaign – wants to be a war correspondent. Wurzelbacher tells a local TV station he will travel to Israel to cover the war in Gaza for PJTV, a video site that’s part of the conservative blog network Pajamas Media.
In an interview with Ohio’s NBC24, Wurzelbacher says he wants to get the perspective of “Average Joes” in Israel. As for the danger of working in a war zone, he adds: “Being a Christian I’m pretty well protected by God I believe. That’s not saying he’s going to stop a mortar for me, but you gotta take the chance.”
