I love this song!!!!

so I was reading the comments of my last post about Jay and BP3 in particular and I decided to listen to my Jay playlist to see what would pop out as some of my favorites versus songs I didn't like for whatever reason. So in my search of a more recent Jay since he did say "Hov on that new shit, Niggas like how come, Niggas want my old shit, buy my old albums" I didn't want to pick anything TOO old. I understand growth, you can't rap about hustlin your entire life--but for me its not even what you say but HOW you say it, and a song is more than lyrics (I know, right, coming from me. lol) so if it doesn't flow right for me, the cadence and production, its just a bit off I'm immediately not a fan. But THIS song, is it.

I love American Gangster but this is hands down my favorite song on that project, and it has actually made my top 10--i can't possibly only have 10 favorites by him? its just...does it for me.

so I heard this song for the first time this morning driving to work. on the Steve Harvey Morning Show.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I do know that I like the words. You all know I love Michael with my whole heart (I'm being serious here) and his music is HUGE on the life soundtrack, but I don't think I'm going to see this movie. I mean, I'm sad just thinking about it. When it comes on DVD I may buy it though. I just can't see myself having this moment in a theatre--even if it is the King of Pop. I mean most other concerts are HBO specials, not feature films. As much as Michael's shows have never been like "other concerts", I don't think I can do it.

**edited to add** I forgot that the concert never actually took place, so this film is just of the rehearsals--which I'm sure are introspective, but I don't know if its something I want to see on the big screen. I watched a review for the show on GMA, and Chris Connelly said it was good. I'll wait for some reviews from peers.

I've always liked this quote. I know some folks that say their siblings are their best friends and I've always admired that. I think its great to grow up with someone and actually get along! I know more folks that love their siblings, but don't really LIKE em that much, or just don't see it in a friendship kinda way: its family, so its more, but its different. For those of you with siblings I don't know which side you fall, on, but regardless, we all have something in common: friends. our chosen family. this song is for them.

 I've been looking for THE SONG all day that would motivate my writing. and I've found it.

When talking to people about my life I often mention that I used to be really selfish. Well I'll say Im not REALLY selfish anymore, just kinda selfish. But its not that I didn't care about other people, I just cared about me a LOT more. *kanye shrug*

I am an only child and I heard my entire childhood and adolescence how thats the reason why I'm selfish, and how completely horrible it is. As a kid, I didn't want to share my toys with my cousins--or if I did, it was only CERTAIN toys.

I was spoiled and had tons of toys, and it could be a game I hadn't played with for months, but let so in so pick that one and NO! you can't have that.  one of the reasons I want to have more than one child--please, be better than me. be required to share on a regular basis, which I was not. I spent a lot of time alone, everything had a place and was readily available when I wanted it. I actually spend a lot of time alone now. hmmm.

But despite all of that, I had to learn to share. and I still don't really like it, I mean like I said, I'll do it, but certain things, no--you can't drink up my Simply Apple juice if you stay at my house. I'm sorry, but that's my shit and its not cheap.   You CAN have some Tropicana though! let me stop- I dont' even buy Tropicana any more, and THAT shit is OD expensive too. lol. why is juice like damn near 4 dollars? ugh. Funny thing is I want whatever it is YOU have, I want it and don't want to be told no. lmao. SHARE WITH ME!!!I only do this with food, btw--but I told yall I'm greedy right?

I talk to or read about/watch talk shows about people who have let themselves go, don't know how to care about themselves; saying they have always looked out for other people first, neglected themselves and I don't get that. I mean, I GET IT, but its never been my reality. I love people, I care deeply. I'm a Libra, I thrive in relationships and enjoy a kin

The jam is the song that for whatever reason is the one that makes you get up off your butt acting saditty poo and go on to the dance floor and do your thing. its usually the song that makes you do a bit more than the 2 step special, this one makes you really cut a rug, sing at the top of your lungs and some whatever else is your steelo.

but this post isn't about those songs necessarily. This post is about THEME SONGS. Every woman has a song that is her ANTHEM; now I'm not talking Irreplaceable or Singles Ladies, but I mean an anthem that when you hear it you think its played just.for.you.

This Yo Gotti character got girls thinking they are 5 Star Chicks and, while I think the concept is hood, that's a good example.  One of my faves used to be "Bad Bitch" by Webbie. #dontjudgeme. I have my hood moments!! lmao

My first song of the morning. I knew I wanted to write today, but wasn't sure what about exactly--then this song inspired me. I don't talk about them often, but Outkast is one of my favorite groups. I am of course partial to mostly east coast hip hop but I loved Outkast immediately. The first time I heard Players Ball and Southernplayalistic...dope. But anyways this song, titled above, I love because Andre 3000 tells a good story--his verse made me think and it made me love them even more, and of course it features Slick Rick, who is known as "The Storyteller".

Thinking about this song, and on the slight buzz of Hip Hop Honors last night--just had me feeling very nostalgic for the music I grew up listening too. It made me realize I really appreciate hip hop that tells a story, something that is so lyrically on point yet gives you introduction, body and conclusion. I mean anyone can rap--and have a nice flow about BS, but what are you exactly saying?! if its lyrically tight and the flow is on point? If I can close my eyes and SEE it?  Which brings me to one of my favorites, BIG. I love Big because he was great at telling a story. I mean one of my favorites--I Got A Story to  Tell. Warning? What's Beef? so many songs.

But back to Kast. Aquemini is my favorite album of theirs, ATLiens close second. So most of my favorites will be from these two, even though I rocked with their debut, and Speakerboxx/The Love Below--I can't say I was too strong on Stankonia or Idlewild. sorry. I posted awhile ago about Goodie Mob and their Dungeon Family crew--and nobody commented on that post *click here*, which was pretty strange to me, but anyway...
