I've just barely started going through some of my work on the fixed gear scene here in Seattle. I don't know if I should even show this yet, since this rough edit was made in only 2 hours... it was really just to try out some black and white film grading ideas I have.

I still need to add my still photos, more interviews, a better narrative structure and a ton of other crap. So now that I've lowered your expectations, watch this clip and maybe your expectations will be raised :)

Today I wanted to take my HD shooting skills and apply it to the Flip Video camera.

wanted to see what kind of quality you can get if you are fairly careful. Mind you I did not bring a tripod. I used the Flip Video only. To get my shots I either had to brace the Flip against something, (sometimes my hat, sometimes a rock or my book) or place the Flip Video on something level at the right height to get the shot I want.

The eternal question: how important is the equipment when you tell a story?

When I was in the fledgling stages of photojournalism I would blame my equipment alot.

If I only had this lens, or that camera body, or a certain tripod or whatever, I would be able to create photos like the big guys. As I left full time photojournalism to live a more balanced life, I found myself drifting back to storytelling.
