Ohio automobile dealer Tom Ganley is airing a statewide television ad to introduce himself to the Republican voters who will decide whether he or former Rep. Rob Portman should be the party nominee in a key open-seat Senate race next year. The 60-second ad touts Ganley's business background and takes an anti-Washington tone, with a narrator saying that Ganley's 47-year career of creating jobs and balancing budgets amounts to "hard work the Washington politicians don't understand." Ganley speaks only at the end of the ad, in a required disclaimer approving the communication.Ganley is expected to spend millions of dollars ahead of the Republican primary election next May. Portman, a former budget and trade official to President George W. Bush, is well-funded, with $5.1 million cash-on-hand in his campaign account as October began. GOP officials are backing Portman and Ganley is running as a political outsider. Watch It:

You may have seen a lot of me lately. I've been speaking out and setting the record straight on why it's critical that health care reform legislation includes a public option. And now that the House has passed it, it's now up to the Senate to act. I refuse to sit by watching families struggle to make ends meet while political pundits, ultra-conservative media talking heads, and the Republican Party blatantly spout misinformation and resort to fear-mongering. It's not only ludicrous -- it's dangerous and will end up costing our nation dearly. As one of my most steadfast supporters, you know how important it is that we pass meaningful health insurance reforms -- which will provide each and every American with quality, affordable coverage. We all know how difficult enacting these important changes is proving to be. At every turn, big pharma and big insurance -- along with their cronies in Washington -- are throwing up roadblocks and undermining our Democratic reform efforts.  Obama makes final push for 'landmark' health reform billAfter returning from Capitol Hill, President Obama made a final, pre-vote plea for his health care plan in a Rose Garden appearance, urging lawmakers to pass what he called a "landmark" health reform bill."What we can do is choose a better future and pass a bill that brings us to the very cusp of building what so many generations of Americans have sought to build -- a better health care system for this country," he said. In his statement, Obama did not lash out at opponents of health care reform as he often does. Instead, he called upon Democrats to meet the call of history and pass the bill. He said that in his meeting with the Democrats earlier, he reminded them of the legacy they can build. "This is their moment," he said. "This is our moment to live up to the trust that the American people have placed in us. Even when it's hard. Especially when its hard. This is our moment to deliver."
