Two of my favourite things - the Large Hadron Collider and the Daily Show - together at last!

An excellent article in the Guardian today about teacher Alom Shaha's passion for science, and the film he's made to explain to kids why it's important for them.

Wow. Thanks, Dan. You were right when you thought that I'd appreciate this footage of a bizarre, deep-sea giant-finned "elbowed" squid.

As Twittered by Dan; M.I.A. and Blaqstarr do a funky version of "Way Down in the Hole", an apocalyptic Tom Waits track. A version by The Blind Boys of Alabama has popular recently as the theme song to the TV show The Wire.

It's bad enough that Sarah Palin is an inexperienced dim-wit. The Republican vice-presidential nominee also has a dismissive and ignorant attitude toward important scientific research.

Antarctica is one cool place.

I've posted about strange animals before, especially animals that live in the ocean depths. It's such a different environment from the one we're familiar with, filled with such weirdly different animals.

Weird just got taken to a new level, though, when I found this video of a Japanese Goblin Shark.

Those are three freaky words.

Later on in the video you'll see it's a bit odd, but not that bizarre. It's a medium-sized, deep-dwelling shark with a large flat nose. But it's the biting behaviour earlier on
