Rush - La Villa Strangiato at Pinkpop 1979

Collected by Anthony Armstrong and 3 other people
Added December 01, 2007
I was 19 at that time and saw that performance, it was my first Rush concert. This was the last performance of the European tour in 1979. Alex Lefeson hurt his finger because he had a very wild night with his wife, his finger came between the mattress and the bed. Info came from: Tjerk La...

There for Me (live) - Zero Hour - from A Fragile Mind

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added July 16, 2008
Live in Iceland. This song RULES. The sound quality of this video doesn't do it justice. Zero Hour is the best band nobody's ever heard of--I'd say one of the best bands making music today, fame be damned.

Eyes of Denial (live) - Zero Hour - from Metamorphosis

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added July 16, 2008
Zero Hour live in Iceland. The production is a bit raw, but the song rules. At least it's a step up from some moron recording it on his cell phone. :) They're pretty underground, so there's not much video of these guys available. Listen, and trust me when I say that they rule.

Queensryche, Gonna Get Close To You - from Rage for Order

Collected by Blog-Ing and 1 other person
Added February 02, 2008
Love the vocals and the creepy vibe of this song. Geoff Tate is probably the best metal vocalist ever. The guitar work is cool, too. It blows my mind how those two guitarists work together so well.

Tool, Wings for Marie part 2 - from 10,000 Days

Collected by Blog-Ing and 1 other person
Added January 28, 2008
Yes, I'm calling Tool a prog band. Musically, this song is Tool at their best--angry, full of doubt and angst; atmospheric, moody, dark, sinuous, and heavy all at once. (Gives me goosebumps just listening to it.) A masterpiece. The video was done by the same Tool fan who did part 1. Pretty good w...

Tool, Wings for Marie part 1 - from 10,000 Days

Added January 28, 2008
This video was made for the song by a fan. Kinda cool. This long, brooding, progressive-ish composition in two parts is the centerpiece of the 10,000 Days album. The more I hear this, the more I fall in love with it.

Fates Warning, Point of View - from Parallels

The first FW song I ever heard. Great melody, great musicianship. Point of View is an awesome' song.

Queensryche, Suite Sister Mary - from Operation: Mindcrime (Live)

Collected by Blog-Ing and 1 other person
Added January 07, 2008
The Operation Mindcrime CD blows my mind, and this song kicks my ass every time I hear it. This version of Suite Sister Mary is from the Operation LIVEcrime tour in 1991, the first time they did Mindcrime live in its entirety--I saw them on this tour in SLC.

Queensryche - Promised Land Live

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added April 08, 2008
Bootleg video with decent sound quality. Doesn't quite capture everything, but it ain't half bad. I posted this because I've been revisiting the Promised Land CD, and it's blowing my mind. Another reason for posting this--you won't see much of him in the video, but listen for Eddie Jackson on ...

Fates Warning, A Pleasant Shade of Gray XI

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added February 02, 2008
A Pleasant Shade of Gray (or APSoG, as FW geeks like me tend to abbreviate it) is an album-length song with no separate track titles, just numbered sections. This is probably my least favorite part of the album, but it's still great...you can get a little bit of an idea what the album is about fr...

Rush, La Villa Strangiato (live from the R30 tour - from Hemispheres

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added February 02, 2008
La Villa, live from the Rush 30th anniversary tour. Damn, I wish I could have seen that! The rant about Paris Hilton toward the end isn't part of the studio version (obviously couldn't be, as the album came out in 1978). Funny stuff. This is a great instrumental--myself, I like it better than the...

Rush, No One at the Bridge (solo)

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added February 01, 2008
This is an excerpt from No One at the Bridge (part III of The Fountain of Lamneth), which begins at about 5:18 into the Lamneth series. I wish there was a video of the whole song...but this should suffice. It's only one of the best melodic solos ever recorded, that's all. :) Lifeson is a genius o...

Rush - The Fountain of Lamneth (Part 2)

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 31, 2008
Retro video--just the song spinning on an old 33 1/3 record. This is the second half of the epic song, The Fountain of Lamneth. I think the best part of this second half of Lamneth comes at 3:14, where the "Bacchus Plateau" section begins.

Rush, The Fountain of Lamneth (part 1)- from Caress of Steel

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 31, 2008
Retro video--just a turntable spinning the song on a 33 1/3 record. Lamneth isn't actually divided into two parts; YouTube limits videos to ten minutes, so this 19-minute epic song (or song cycle, if you want to get picky about it) had to be cut in two. Lamneth, I think, is what really makes Care...

Rush, Bacchus Plateau (part V of The Fountain of Lamneth) - from Caress of Steel

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 31, 2008
Though it's part of the epic The Fountain of Lamneth, this song also can stand on its own. This is where the hero of the Lamneth story begins to find (though he may not realize it yet) that the true value of his quest is not in reaching his destination, but simply in the journey he has taken. A g...

Rush, Bastille Day - from Caress of Steel

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 31, 2008
One of the all-time classic Rush songs. (Sorry, no actual video...but as I've said before, it's the SONG that really matters.) Caress of Steel is probably Rush's most maligned album, but nonetheless, it has some true gems. Took me a long time to come around to this album--owned it for years befor...

Fates Warning, Still Remains part 2 (live) - from Disconnected

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 22, 2008
Probably a bootleg, so the sound quality isn't great, but it's all I could find. This is not the heavy stuff that's my favorite, but it does crank up a bit here and there. I think this should give you an idea of what FW can do.

Fates Warning, Still Remains part 1 (live)

Collected by Blog-Ing
Added January 22, 2008
Part one of Still Remains. Not great sound quality on this live recording, but passable; might be a bootleg. Still Remains is probably the least heavy song on Disconnected...but it still rocks. This should give you an idea of what they can do, anyway.

Dream Theater, The Mirror - from Awake

Not actually a video, just the album cover. But who needs some shitty video when the song rocks this hard? Just listen! This song makes me want to jump up and start playing my bass. Dream Theater, Lie - from Awake

This song makes me want to jump up and start playing my bass. On the CD, The Mirror segues right into Lie, so they're almost like one giant, cool song--Dream Theater has done a lot of amazing stuff since recording this, but The Mirror and Lie are still two of their best songs..
