Reefer Madness - Full Movie.
The cannabis culture is no stranger to the propaganda released by governments. Among the most infamous of these is the 1936 classic, "Reefer Madness" (aka Tell your children.) The movie revolves around the events that unfold after "pushers" of marijuana convince highschool students to try it. A hit and run, suicide, manslaughter, rape and eventual descent into madness all ensue.
Tell your Children, as it was originally titled, was financed by a church group, and we all know how unorthodox the church can be in social issues such as this. The movie was supposed to be shown to parents as a tale of morality, attempting to teach them the dangers of marijuana.
However, soon after the film was shot it was bought by producer Dwain Esper, who took the liberty of cutting in obscene insert shots and applying the slightly more attention grabbing title of "Reefer Madness". The film has had numerous titles including The Burning Question, Dope Addict, Doped Youth and Love Madness.
The movie went largely unnoticed until 1971 when it was discovered in the Library of Congress archives by Keith Stroup, founder of NORML (The National Orginization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), who bought a print for just less than $300, and brought the movie to near cult status with pot smokers and college campuses everywhere.
The film was spoofed in a musical of the same name, which was later made into a Made for TV movie in 2005, which was shot in color. In the color version the smoke from the marijuana was made to appear Green, Purple, Orange and Blue, representing the mood and addiction levels of each smoker in the movie. Whilst some praised the new color version for its absurd treatment of the cult film, some claimed the color choices would have been a better idea for a movie regarding LSD than Cannabis.
Reefer Madness is one of the most unintentionally funny movies of the 20th century, and should be viewed by anyone who needs a good laugh.
