Ani Batikian plays a violin carved from a sycamore tree that once stood in the garden of Arthur Conan Doyle when he was a boy. The physician and writer went on to create perhaps the most famous fictional detective of all time - Sherlock Holmes.

The violin was made by master craftsman Steve Burnett, and will be used almost exclusively to raise money for environmental and children's charities.

The Severn is the UK’s longest, and most dramatic river. It has the second largest tidal range in the world. Twice a day, the tide drives a massive body of water up the funnel shaped river estuary, creating a strange and beautiful wave.

The Severn Bore.

It is, quite literally, the stuff of myths and legends.

It could also be harnessed to produce 5% of the UKs entire electricity supply.

I wanted to find the answer to a simple question – should the river Severn be harnessed for it’s renewable energy?

A little taster of my forthcoming documentary about the River Severn, and the plans to harness it as a massive source of renewable energy.

I filmed dozens of people surfing the bore through the hazy dawn light in Spring. This was a three star wave, and a little small - although the effect on the day of this immensely long wave going on and on upstream was pretty impressive on the day, especially with the enormous swell of water that followed it.

The documentary I am making will be my first foray into the medium. Most of my work has been in radio, although as you'll see from my slideshows above, I've been working to blend image and sound for some time.

I'm still interested in juxtaposing sounds and images that were recorded independently, at different times - so you may see a lot of that in the finished piece.

Deep in the Peruvian Amazon lives an artist of world renown. Francisco Grippa paints his vivid masterpieces from an immense red castle made of wood that towers above the small thatched houses of the village of Pevas.

I sailed down the Amazon on one of it's flat bottomed river boats in order to make this radio piece for the BBC.
