I went to see Van Hunt the other night in Nashville. I've been waiting a few years to see this cat live, so I jumped at the chance. I got there a few minutes before he went on, milled around and socialized, then the emcees for the evening got on stage to introduce him. They talked briefly about Mr. Hunt, then they talked about being quiet... I found this strange, but I let it slide. Van hits the stage alone, blonde jazz-box in hand and proceeds to lay down some heat. He passionately sings and embellishes the tunes with wild jazzy chords, chats candidly with the audience, asking us to sing along. We reluctantly joined him, because we wanted to just listen. They don't even know how to enjoy themselves. They drink too much, they get loud, they got to be seen and heard. They'll jump up and dance jigs and sing. They ain't got no manners -- don't pay their women no respect." "I hate to play in a place full of those kind of squares so bad that if there wasn't nobody else to play to, I'd invest in some more property an
