what people are saying

Ex Greenpeace Cofounder and wildlife defender Paul Watson, otherwise known as the "Sea Shepherd", has dedicated his life to environmental activism and animal rights. Often regarded as "extreme", and "over the top" , Paul heads an organization called the Sea Shepard Conservation Society, protecting animals in several campaigns. His active campaigns include protecting seals, fighting against longline fishing and shark finning, protecting the taiji dolphins and the ecosystems on the Galapagos Islands, and protesting whale hunting, especially from hunters in Japan. According to Japanese law, whale hunting is allowed for "research" only. And the hunting continues, for "research" as the great barges have written in large letters on their vessels. Except it is not for research. They have used these laws as a loophole for whale hunting. In Japan, whale meat is seen as a delicacy, and officials in Tokyo maintain that the tradition is an important part of the nation's cultural heritage. Whale meat is readily available to Japanese consumers at specialty restaurants and gourmet grocery stores nationwide, despite the laws. Many japanese are now beginning to pay attention to the current endangerment of many types of whale species and their governments ignorance. Tomoko Yanai, 45, who has two children, says "The meat is delicious. I used to eat it when I was in school. But whales are precious animals and now I feel they should be protected."Although water laws are in effect, enforcements are weak, and Paul is a spokesperson for change.Visit Seashepherd.org for more information.Warning, the video contains graphic animal violence. more about "MySpaceTV Videos: Sea Shepherd Conser...", posted with vodpod
