Julie Schwartz and her son Alexander watched the 35W Bridge collapse, saw the school bus, and immediately ran to the children’s aid. They helped lead the kids away from the horrific site, escorted them into the Red Cross building, where they immediately performed triage, covered wounds, made makeshift ice packs, and comforted the children.
