This is a change from the Kanye we all know and love as an artist but may I be one of the millions to say the change is brilliant. When I first heard the sound of the drums in Love Lockdown I just closed my eyes and fell in love as listened the tribal sound. The work of a true genius. Just try to keep your head from swelling up so big that you can't make it through a door Kanye.
Mr. West has been quite busy lately preparing to release his upcoming album. Last night, Kanye publicly debuted his new album, 808s & Heartbreak, at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles via a collaboration with Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft. As for album: yes, it’s almost entirely sung by West, aside from one verse by Young Jeezy on “Amazing” and a duet with Lil Wayne; yes, it is sung almost entirely through Auto-Tune; yes, some people are not going to be sure what to make of it, but we applaud West’s decision to step off a creative ledge wearing a jetpack that no one else is sure will actually work.FADER published a great piece from the listening event that goes more into detail about the event and the album, check it out and then hit the jump to see Ye’ performing on Jimmy Kimmel.
Ok so, last night in L.A. Kanye held the listening party for 808’s And Heartbreak. No, I didn’t go, it’s not that serious, although I wouldn’t have minded being there to witness the 40 naked girls. Hit the jump for some links. Myspace’s A Place For Hip-Hop has a somewhat detailed account of the night, complete with paraphrased quotes from Kanye: “Would you judge a grandmother’s love? Give it 2.5 mics out of 5?… If I wanna rap, I’ll rap. If I wanna sing, I’ll sing. I told Jay, LA Reid and everyone at my label that I needed to put this out right now, I’ll have another album in June, but this has to come out right now…”And the FADER also offers a quick rundown: After waiting in a loading area with an open bar and a DJ, we walked up a driveway illuminated by florescent lights to a darkened room where approximately forty nude women, most of them wearing face-obscuring masks seemingly made of faux lamb’s wool, stood in the middle—black girls in the front, white girls in the back. Then the entire album played without introduction or explanation. The women were backlit by glowing lights—mostly red and purple, sometimes strobing, often pulsing and sporadically illuminating. So yeah, this is album is basically going to be Electric Circus meets The Love Below.
