what people are saying

What could easily be distinguished as a joke, or a humorous comment, was actually meant in earnest.  Congresswoman Bachmann made a statement the other day that just doesn’t add up.  American, it seems, is “running out of rich people.”Here’s the audio for the entire show:  Chris Baker talks with Rep. Bachmann, but if you don’t want to hear the entire show you can catch the clip.  Thankfully, Steve Benen of Washington Monthly has corrected some mistakes she made. * ACORN is “under federal indictment for voter fraud,” but the stimulus bill nevertheless gives ACORN “$5 billion.” (In reality, ACORN is not under federal indictment and isn’t mentioned in the stimulus bill at all.)* many members of Congress have “a real aversion to capitalism.”* the stimulus bill includes a measure to create a “rationing board” for health care, and after the bill becomes law, “your doctor will no longer be able to make your healthcare decisions with you.”* the recovery package is part of a Democratic conspiracy to “direct” funding away from Republican districts, so Democratic districts can “suck up” all federal funds. Bachmann doesn’t think this will work because, as she put it, “We’re running out of rich people in this country.”* the “Community-Organizer-in-Chief” is also orchestrating a conspiracy involving the Census Bureau, which the president will use to redraw congressional lines to keep Democrats in power for up to “40 years.” When the host said he was confused, noting that congressional district lines are drawn at the state level, Bachmann said Obama’s non-existent plan is an “anti-constitutional move.” I’m still wondering how this woman ever got reelected.Posted in Home, Left News Tagged: american, conservative, economy, elections, ktlk, michelle bachmann, patriotic, politics, republican, steve benen, washington post

But she is the one who has a lot to learn about what it means to love America. Her fellow members of Congress need to take a stand and tell Michele Bachmann that her disgusting accusations have no place in our country. Chris Matthews just gave Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Outer Wingnuttia, all the rope she wanted yesterday on Hardball, and boy did she make a handy little noose with it.First Matthews tried to get Bachmann to tell his audience, per Sarah Palin's homage to "pro-American places," what parts of America are anti-American. She danced around the question and kept harking on the talking points programmed into her playback. So then he tried another tack:Matthews: How many Congresspeople, members of Congress are in that anti-American crowd you describe?Bachmann: Matthews: How many Congresspeople you serve with -- I mean, there's 435 members of Congress -- Bachmann: -- well right now --Matthews: -- how many are anti-American in that Congress right now that you serve with?Bachmann: You'd have to ask them, Chris, I'm focusing on Barack Obama and the people he's been associated with --Matthews: But do you suspect that a lot of the people you serve with --Bachmann: -- and I'm very worried about their anti-American nature.Matthews: Well, he's the United States Senator from Illinois, he's one of the people you suspect as being anti-American. How many people in the Congress of the United States do you think are anti-American? You've already suspected Barack Obama. Is he alone, or are there others?Bachmann: Matthews: How many do you suspect of your colleagues do you suspect of being anti-American?Bachmann: I would say, what I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look -- I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America? I think the people would love to see an expose like that.Right after the break, Katrina Vandenheuvel said precisely what needed to be said -- and with more passion than I've ever witnessed from her on TV:Chris, I fear for my country. I think what we just heard is a congresswoman channeling Joe McCar...
