Did he seriously just say that "Obama and the Deomcrats believe that Americans in a time of crisis would be willing to sacrifice our freedoms, abandon our founding principles and common sense, and ease into the mediocrity of the warm embrace of the Washington papa bear"?

Well, who wouldn't believe that? That's exactly what the current administration has been banking on since 9/11. Remember Habeas Corpus? Citizens' rights to privacy? Human rights to not be tortured? And remember when questioning Bush/Cheney about these was considered "unamerican"?

This administration hides behind "national security" and redefines our laws, founding principles and even the Constitution itself to justify its actions. The administration's sheer audacity demonstrates not just a lack of respect for Americans' common sense, but actual contempt for our opinions. (Dick Cheney actually thought he could get us to swallow that he wasn't even a member of the executive branch so he could weasel out of some disclosure law! That's just insulting.)

So how can Fred Thompson try to scare us with that possibility under an Obama presidency with a straight face?
