When we do not have commitment and focus we develop self-doubt. Self-doubt opens the door for others to try and steal from us our purpose and reason to do what we feel is our destiny. It also invites opposition from those closest to us. People try to keep us in a box because they don't want us to excel because then they have to change the way they respond to us. Some people avoid change and try to keep things in status quo. If we want to excel and change our lives, we have to change status quo and go after our dreams.
