Lately I have been coming across interesting and intriguing videos. The one below is from the Charter for Compassion.Compassion has been very much on my mind for a little over a year, especially since I am forced to be in close proximity to a group of Native people who are seemingly intent on practicing anti-Indigenousness as a matter of principle and even pride. The actions of these present-day capos have taught me, again, lessons over the worst of politics: hate, cowardice, bullying, greed, and indifference. In addition, a visit I made to the West Bank earlier this year also stressed these same actions, albeit on a much larger scale of militarized-violence.Having been blessed with both a mother who is a clinical psychologist and with siblings who are expert-observers of the human condition, I have heard and read about resiliency most of my life, including the ways that people under attack survive and continue to reach out to assist others. So while I bear witness to and document the injustices of the anti-Indigenous Cosa Nostra as they brutalize and attack Indigenous Peoples in their bid to Apple-ize Indian Country, the past year also has been a reaffirmation for me that empathy (the rapport that signals the sincere connection with others that is not exploitative and generates recognition of their dignity and humanity) and compassion (the actions we take prompted by empathy) do exist even in very trying situations.
