Shortening, in its most generic meaning, is any fat or oil that is used to make a short crust or dough (one that has a high ratio of fat to flour, and turns out tender, crumbly, and rich).
In general usage, when you see the word shortening as an ingredient in a recipe in this country US, a solid vegetable shortening, of which Crisco is the leading brand.
This video was good ,but wish ther was some verbal instructions on the steps .Also telling someone like me who never made fondant how it was feeling eg:stiff ,soft ,some geasy or not.Would have been better than the music
What is shortening - I'm in the UK and we don't use this term - I have heard it used for making buttercream too. Is it just white fat? Does this make buttercream taste fatty / greasy?
We have white cooking fat (not lard) i.e. flora white
