Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Michael Ealy, Barry PepperA man who was responsible of a fatal car accident seeks redemption by saving the lives of seven people.Totally predictable. You know the obvious from the first ten minutes of the movie. The story is 5 minutes of each person in distress which is a total of 30 minutes of the movie and the rest is the fresh blossomed love story of Will Smith and Rosario Dawson who suffers from a heart condition. Ok, if I say more you will get the end if you haven’t figured it out yet.The way the story ends is quite impressive, but totally stupid. Perhaps this is why it is impressive.

Will Smith’s much anticipated (yet mysterious) movie comes out this week. I had the pleasure of catching a sneak peek earlier this week, continue reading to see my review.From the previews you can only piece together that the character Will Smith plays (Ben Thomas) did something wrong in his past, and has a plan to make up for it. The preview pretty much give you the long and the short of the premise behind the movie. What is going to sell tickets is the curiosity of the moving going public, the preview doesn’t tell you what he did and how he plans to make up for it.The cast consists of a few fans favorites (Rosario Dawson and Woody Harrelson). Rosario’s Character (Emily Posa) is one of the people Ben Thomas can help.The only down side to this movie was the painful inevitability of the outcome. Within the first 15 minutes you know how the movie is going to end. If you are dating a girl you do not want to bring her to that movie, if you are in a relationship then it is safe.ENOUGH of the cryptic talk, I will now go into a full blown explanation of the movie…if you don’t like spoilers, STOP HERE!!!Ok, so Ben’s “BIG mistake” is a car accident he caused while out with his new fiance. Ben was driving and his phone received a text message. Ben decided to check it while driving and crashes head first into a van, killing 7 people including his fiance. They give you hints throughout the movie (such as showing him with a simple flip phone even though he went to MIT, talking about how he is such a bad person) yet they don’t show what happened until he is about to execute his plan. Now…the plan. He used his brother’s credentials as an IRS agent to find out personal information on people in bad circumstances (heart problems, eye problems) and donates his body parts to them and his material possessions. Will Smith’s latest film, Seven Pounds, opens Friday at area theaters. To play the role, Smith said he drew inspiration from some tragedies in his own life, including his 1995 divorce and the death of his grandmother. “It’s so different from how I look at life,” Smith said during a recent promotional stop in Dallas. “He got stuck in the tragedy. It was very helpful talking to people who had experienced loss. The major thing that kept coming back is that people said they would relive it every day. That was the thing that I was playing in certain moments, to be able to find the things that clicked me back into the moment of that loss.” Ben is an introspective part for Smith following on the heels of The Pursuit of Happyness and Hancock, two other movies in which he played emotionally withdrawn characters who are coping with tragic circumstances. Now he said he’s ready to return to the more upbeat, comic fare that characterized his rise to stardom in the late 1990s.No tag for this post.
