Dr. Mária Telkes | TRAILBLAZERS | THE SUN QUEEN | AMERICAN EXPERIENCE | PBS

Renowned for her moniker as the “Sun Queen” in the United States, Dr. Mária Telkes was a chemical engineer and innovator with roots in Hungary where she initially trained as a chemist. Upon her relocation to the U.S., she channeled her efforts into pioneering solar energy research. By 1964, at the age of 63, Telkes continued her diligent work and was sharing her insights as a speaker. The artwork showcases a portrait of Dr. Mária Telkes set against a blue background, framed with a yellow border. The portrait, which appears to be a stylized drawing, depicts her with wavy hair and wearing a collared shirt. Above her image, the words “TRAILBLAZERS: DR. MÁRIA TELKES” are displayed, indicating her status as a pathfinder in her field, as part of the series “AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.”
