Maria Telkes, an innovator in the field of solar energy and biophysics, dedicated her expertise to devising thermoelectric equipment that harnesses the power of the sun. She is credited with the conception and creation of the first solar-heated house of its kind, pioneering modern residential solar-powered heating.
