more about "VIDEO: YEAH Really?!: Bush Shoe Dodgi...", posted with vodpodNow, I have never been a fan of Current President Bush but no one has the right to throw shoes at our President. Regardless of his low ratings in the polls and poor judgment, no one has the right to disrespect our leader especially when he is sent out to represent us.It reflects poorly on our leadership and our country. I think the journalist was out of line and should be handled accordingly because this tested the boundaries of security and showed that anything could be used as a weapon.I have great respect for journalists and their supposed stance of objectivity. However, this Iraqi journalist stepped beyond the scope of respectability for himself or his country. This should not be viewed as some hoax or taken lightly. This is a matter of international security and although Bush claims that it was no big deal, it is a very big deal because of the lack of respect and also because something worse could have happened. What if those shoes had something in them? No one would be laughing. That journalist had too much of an opportunity to hurt him. He was just too close.I am not laughing with the rest of the world and I hope that our secret service is taking note and avoiding similar situations in the future. To make matters worse, there is now a video game called "Sock and Awe" as a parody of this event, where you get to throw shoes at the president! This is an outrage!Freedom of speech should not warrant or promote the acceptance of disrespect. There is a difference between speaking your mind freely in a forum that gives your voice purpose and forward movement and just being outright rude and disrespectful. When we disrespect our leaders, we disrespect ourselves, whether we like it or not.
