Posted by Bossip StaffThe video addresses some disturbing racially motivated things that occurred during and after Katrina in a small neighborhood called Algiers. Back-wood trashy motherf*ckers.Discuss…
Earlier last week I wrote a post regarding gun control. This is what prompted me to write that post. The NRA is forever pushing the idea that President Obama has a hidden agenda regarding gun control which is no more than a marketing ploy considering no such agenda exist, I propose more people buy guns and level the playing field against racism. The outcome of the bigotry and racism in our country led a group of people in New Orleans to kill 11 innocent people (which the exact figure is not really known and could be higher) under the guise of protecting their property during Katrina. My only goal was that the victims might need to start leveling the playing field and give those that victimize a run for their money. That this is another chapter in the sad representation of the American people and their propensity towards hate is as sad as it is appalling. This was not a real group of people protecting their property. This was the KKK in action doing what they have missed doing for quite some time, killing people just because...______ (fill in the blank). As I always feel, nothing shows the truth like a video. The fact that the truth surrounding Katrina was bad enough, now its compounded by the citizens being as dumb as president Bush.I am neither shocked or surprise that Louisiana’s broken law enforcement agencies are refusing to investigate the crimes. After all its not like it was OJ Simpson robbing people to get his own property back and we could use that criminal act to make him pay for a previous crime. This was serious red necks exercising their rights as citizens. Thank goodness for the "Color Of Change Organization." They are pressing the issue that Gov. Jindal investigate these allegations and are promoting a campaign to bring this situation to the state and federal governments attention. via Think ProgressEarlier this week, A.C. Thompson of The Nation revealed that after Hurricane Katrina, white vigilante groups patrolled New Orleans, blockaded streets, and shot at least eleven black men. It “was like pheasant season in South Dakota. If it moved, you shot it,” said one vigilante. Color of Change is organizing a campaign to [...]
A.C. Thompson has a devastating piece in The Nation this week describing the all-white militia that took up arms to defend one of the few neighborhoods in New Orleans to stay dry after Hurricane Katrina broke the levees in 2005:Facing an influx of refugees, the residents of Algiers Point could have pulled together food, water and medical supplies for the flood victims. Instead, a group of white residents, convinced that crime would arrive with the human exodus, sought to seal off the area, blocking the roads in and out of the neighborhood by dragging lumber and downed trees into the streets. They stockpiled handguns, assault rifles, shotguns and at least one Uzi and began patrolling the streets in pickup trucks and SUVs. The newly formed militia, a loose band of about fifteen to thirty residents, most of them men, all of them white, was looking for thieves, outlaws or, as one member put it, anyone who simply "didn't belong." It started out as a classic case of white paranoiac overreaction to fears of looting and rioting and whatever else it is those black people do -- rather like the reaction you saw in sundown towns in the 1920s, which were similar in being "defended communities," to supposed threats of black depredations -- but quickly morphed into something else altogether:Fellow militia member Wayne Janak, 60, a carpenter and contractor, is more forthcoming with me. "Three people got shot in just one day!" he tells me, laughing. We're sitting in his home, a boxy beige-and-pink structure on a corner about five blocks from Daigle's Grocery. "Three of them got hit right here in this intersection with a riot gun," he says, motioning toward the streets outside his home. Janak tells me he assumed the shooting victims, who were African-American, were looters because they were carrying sneakers and baseball caps with them. He guessed that the property had been stolen from a nearby shopping mall. According to Janak, a neighbor "unloaded a riot gun"--a shotgun--"on them. We chased them down."Janak, who ...
A quick plug for a story I’ve been working on at The Nation. It’s a massive investigation by A.C. Thompson into vigilante shootings after Hurricane Katrina. There are two parts, the first is about shootings of black residents by white vigilantes while they were trying to flee New Orleans. The second is about one specific case that the police may have been very involved in. If you’re so moved there is a petition at Color of Change calling for an investigation. After the jump is a video about the piece. It has something I know you’ve been craving since those Sarah Palin rallies: Extremely racist white people who will say anything to a camera.
