I've been getting the daily email newsletter from Modern Tonic (and you can too by clicking here), an entertainment review site with a clean that and covers much more than TV. I know Coraline is a movie, and I don't write a lot about movies, but Neil Gaiman has been on my radar since the rumors (or should I say rumours) started about him writing a Doctor Who episode for series five. So, I've been particularly interested in this story which if you think about it could easily be the basis for a tale of a Time Lord and a little girl in peril. From a synopsis written for IMDB.com: Adapted from the Hugo Award-winning, internationally best-sellingnovel, Coraline is a spine-tingling tale about a curious girl whounlocks a mysterious door in her family's new home and enters into anadventure in a parallel reality. On the surface, this "Other World"eerily mimics her own life - though it is much more fantastical. In it,Coraline encounters different versions of her own life, includingoff-kilter neighbors and an Other Mother who attempts to keep herforever. Ultimately, Coraline must rely on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to get back home. See what I mean? And, it's in 3D (in selected theatres), and 3D is really in right now. Modern Tonic approves: Whether the camera is sweeping through anaudience of appreciative Schnauzers or ogling the enormous bazoombas ona pair of old Shakespearean thespians (voiced by the delicious duo of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders), the stop-motion 3-D is jaw-dropping.Henry Selick is a director with a lot of buzzabout him. And excuse me for not knowing more. As you know, TV is aproducer's medium so I don't always pay the attention I should todirectors. All that and Teri Hatcher playing a nasty alternative reality mother; Dakota Fanning, also said to be circling the Twilight sequel New Moon; and the aforementioned French and Saunders ... sounds pretty interesting.Though it still takes a lot for me to get to the movies. Trailer after the jump. LINK
