I was 16 when THOUSAND STARS came out.It was so clear and simple--and great!Seeing Kathy Young on PBS is a revelation! There is no one in the history of show business that has held up better! She must have stepped out of a time capsuleis.Kathy Young is timeless--in a way we wish Elvis would have been.Hats off to her--she represents us very well!
Thanks for the detail Mike... Of course we knew this Doo Wop show wasn't this year, but like knowing the facts! Kathy Young....I totally agree with you opinion on her vocals, etc... My understanding is that she is a long distance runner to stay in shape? That cardio shows! By the way...let me suggest that you check out Darlene Love on the Dave Letterman show....she does a Christmas thing every year on there when she sings..."Baby Please Come Home (for Christmas)" Also...Dion singing the Wanderer in recent times...amazing how these singers can hold anything close to their old edge for so long...amazing. So many try...so many hope...so many insist on embarrassing themselves...but so few have the lasting gift.
Actually this video is from a Doo-Wop concert put together by PBS in 2001 and re-broadcast this year. Even so, Kathy at 55 is gorgeous. Paul is right --her vocal abilities remain undimmed, and her charm, charisma and connection with her audience is mesmerizing. I think, in fact, that this live performance of "A Thousand Stars" is better than the original 1959 record! Kathy's voice has more depth, and she sings with far more feeling and nuance. She still makes concert appearances. Check out her website --- www.KathyYoung.com.
Let's tell it like it is... Kathy Young is one of only a few "oldies" singers / groups that have retained their skills. It is a short list...Dion...Jay Black of Jay and the Americans...Darlene Love....Duane Eddy...click on them and find some qualilty stuff. But the list is short. And Kathy Young had this hit in 1959! That was 50 years ago? Say what? She still looks great...and I don't mean OK for someone in her 60's...I mean GREAT. Kathy Young is hot, and there is no denying that!! Congrats to her!
