I grew up playing with wooden blocks—the standard blocks with numbers and letters—or even just plain colors.
By the time my son came along, the blocks were plastic and we quickly moved into Legos—the intersecting blocks that enabled a much wider range of creativity.
Now, there are Siftables-- cookie-sized computerized tiles that you can stack in your hand. They can be programmed to create interactive cartoons, compose music and more. Check out this presentation by Siftables creator David Merrrill from this year’s TED conference. This is about the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time—and has incredible potential for teaching and learning in the emerging generations.
